Labour costs up in almost all activities
At the annual level, the labour costs per hour worked increased again, this time the most in accommodation and food service activities.

In the 3rd quarter of 2023, the labour costs per hour worked increased on average by 5.3% over the third quarter a year before (in the previous quarter they went up by 14.6% year-on-year). In the same period, earnings per hour worked increased by 5.4% and other labour costs per hour worked by 4.2%.
The labour costs per hour worked went up the most in accommodation and food service activities (by 10.0%), followed by other service activities (by 9.4%) and transportation and storage (by 8.5%). They went down only in two activities, in mining and quarrying (by 2.4%) and in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (by 0.2%).
In the 2nd quarter of this year, the labour costs higher in all EU Member States
According to Eurostat data, compared to last year’s 2nd quarter, in this year’s 2nd quarter the labour costs per hour worked (agriculture, forestry and fishing excluded) were higher in all EU Member States. They increased the most in Hungary (by 16.8%), followed by Croatia (by 14.5%) and Bulgaria (by 14.0%). In the same comparison, the labour costs per hour worked in the EU increased by 5.0%, in the euro area by 4.5% and in Slovenia by 13.5%.

According to Eurostat data, compared to last year’s 2nd quarter, in this year’s 2nd quarter the labour costs per hour worked (agriculture, forestry and fishing excluded) were higher in all EU Member States. They increased the most in Hungary (by 16.8%), followed by Croatia (by 14.5%) and Bulgaria (by 14.0%). In the same comparison, the labour costs per hour worked in the EU increased by 5.0%, in the euro area by 4.5% and in Slovenia by 13.5%.
