Waste indicators, 2022
The least waste (excluding major mineral wastes) per capita generated so far
In the last decade, the amount of all generated waste (excluding major mineral wastes) per capita decreased by almost 350 kg and the amount of treated waste (excluding major mineral wastes) per capita by just over 200 kg. The recycling rate of municipal waste continues to grow.
A resident of Slovenia generated on average just over a tenth less waste (excluding major mineral wastes) than the year before
In 2022, 1,359 kg of all waste (excluding major mineral wastes) per capita was generated in Slovenia, which is 182 kg (or 12%) less than in the previous year. This decrease is mainly the result of significantly lower amounts of waste generated from thermal processes. 1,228 kg of waste per capita was treated, which is 56 kg (or 4%) less than in the previous year. The ratio between treated and generated waste (excluding major mineral wastes) increased by 7 percentage points over the previous year.
Highest recycling rate of municipal waste so far
The recycling rate of municipal waste was 62%, which is almost 2 percentage points more than in the previous year. This is mainly the result of decrease in amounts of municipal waste generated. Compared to 2012 the recycling rate of municipal waste increased by 20 percentage points.
Lower recycling rate of all waste (excluding major mineral wastes)
The recycling rate of all waste (excluding major mineral wastes) was slightly more than 79%. This is 6 percentage points less than in the previous year and 6 percentage points more than in 2012. The landfill rate of all waste treated (excluding major mineral wastes) was almost 5%, i.e. almost the same as in the previous year and 9 percentage points lower than a decade earlier.
