More employees as well as self-employed

In September, there were about 933,700 persons in employment, 0.3% more than in the previous month. The highest monthly growth (by 2.0%) was recorded in education. In manufacturing, the number of persons in employment is decreasing, both at the monthly level as well as in other comparisons.

Key statistics for September:

  • Monthly increase in persons in employment by 0.3%, to about 933,700;

More persons in employment

Compared to the previous month, the number of persons in employment increased by just under 2,500 or 0.3%. The number of employees increased by just over 2,100 to about 832,600, and the number of self-employed by almost 400 to about 101,100.

This time, a larger monthly increase was recorded for women in employment. Their number increased by just over 1,700 or 0.4%, (the most in education), while the number of men in employment rose by about 700 or 0.1%.

Monthly growth in most activities

Compared to the previous month, the number of persons in employment increased in 14 activities and decreased in 6. The largest increase was recorded in education, with about 1,600 persons or 2.0%, of which about 1,300 were women (81.1%) and about 300 men (18.9%). 

The average age of persons in employment in education was 44.9 years, while the most represented profession, with about 13,100 persons, was early childhood educators.

The largest monthly decline was recorded in manufacturing, by around 500 persons or 0.2%. This is the fourth consecutive monthly decline in the number of persons in employment in this activity.

Fewer persons in employment in manufacturing in a longer time frame

Compared to the previous quarter, the number of persons in employment decreased by 0.2%. The number of employees went down by 0.3% and the number of self-employed up by 0.9%. The number of persons in employment decreased the most in manufacturing, by 0.8%. The largest increase was recorded in professional, scientific and technical activities, by 1.4%. 

Compared to previous September, the number of persons in employment increased by 0.9%. The number of employees increased by 0.7% and the number of self-employed by 2.7%. The number of men in employment increased by 0.8% and of women by 1.1%. The number of persons in employment went up the most in information and communication activities, by 6.0%, and down the most in manufacturing activities, by 0.3%.
