Exports down, imports up
The value of the external trade in goods increased only in the 1st quarter, while in the 2nd and 3rd quarters it started to decline due to a decrease in trade with EU Member States. Despite this decrease, growth was still recorded at the level of the first nine months but to a lesser extent.

Exports (EUR 4.7 billion):
Compared to last September, a decrease in the value of external trade with EU Member States is most noticeable in the lower value of trade with Italy, Germany and Croatia on the export side, and with Germany, Austria and Croatia on the import side.
In trade with EU non-member countries, the increase in the value of trade with Switzerland had the greatest impact on the growth of imports, while the decrease in the value of trade with the Russian Federation had the greatest impact on the decrease in exports.
The value of external trade in goods up in the first nine months compared to same period last year
The value of the external trade in goods increased only in the 1st quarter, while in the 2nd and 3rd quarters it started to decline due to a decrease in trade with EU Member States. Despite this decrease, growth of exports and imports was still recorded at the level of the first nine months but to a lesser extent. Exports went up by 4.1% (amounting to EUR 41.1 billion) and imports by 1.0% (amounting to EUR 42.7 billion).
External trade deficit amounted to EUR 1.7 billion in the observed period, while the export-import ratio was 96.1%.
The largest share of total exports and imports was contributed (according to the Standard International Trade Classification – SITC) by chemicals and related products (39.3% of exports and 39.0% of imports), followed by machinery and transport equipment (26.5% of exports and 22.6% of imports), manufactured goods classified chiefly by material (14.6% of exports and 12.8% of imports), miscellaneous manufactured articles (7.7% of exports and 6.8% of imports), and mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (5.5% of exports and 9.0% of imports).
Exports (EUR 4.7 billion):
- Value down by 10.6% compared to the previous September.
- The decrease in the value was more significant in trade with EU Member States (by 15.4%) than in trade with EU non-member countries (by 4.4%). To EU non-member countries, without operations involving processing, it amounted to EUR 832.4 million and was lower in value by 12.7%.
- Value up by 6.7% compared to the previous September.
- Only imports from EU non-member countries with operations involving processing grew (by 27.1%), while without these operations imports went down by 34.8% to EUR 717.2 million.
