Population increase due to positive net migration
In the second quarter the natural decrease and positive net migration continued. Total increase was 3,263.
Fewer live births and fewer deaths
In the second quarter of 2023, 4,202 live births and 4,998 deaths were recorded in Slovenia. Compared to the second quarter of 2022, the number of live births was 183 (4%) lower, and the number of deaths 170 (3%) lower. In a year, the value of natural decrease remained unchanged: −1.5 per 1,000 population.
Fewer marriages and more divorces
In the observed period, 2,186 couples were married and 574 couples were divorced. Compared to the second quarter of 2022, the number of marriages went down by 84 (4%), while the number of divorces went up by 16 (3%).
Decrease in internal migration
In the second quarter of 2023, 24,407 people migrated internally, which is 30% fewer than in the same period of 2022.
More immigrants and fewer emigrants
Compared to the same period of 2022, the number of immigrants to Slovenia increased by 7% to 8,414. The number of emigrants decreased by 4% to 4,355. The number of citizens of Slovenia who emigrated abroad (1,247) was lower than the number of foreigners (3,108).
Positive net migration was recorded for foreign nationals (4,374 persons), while 315 Slovene citizens more emigrated from Slovenia than immigrated to it.
