63.4% of persons in paid employment received average monthly net earnings lower than the national average

Average monthly net earnings of women in 2022 amounted to EUR 1,382, which is 5.1% less than that of men. The median monthly net earnings, which divide the population into two equal parts, amounted to EUR 1,256 for men and EUR 1,193 for women. A tenth of persons in paid employment received on average less than EUR 830, while 1% received more than EUR 4,051 net per month.

Average monthly net earnings 7.0% higher

Net earnings increased the most in human health and social work activities (by 18.1%), followed by accommodation and food service activities (by 13.5%), transportation and storage (10.8%) and agriculture, forestry and fishing (10.4%). In two activities, they were lower than in the previous year, namely in education (by 4.0%) and in public administration and defence, compulsory social security (by 2.0%). To the greatest extent, net earnings increased for persons in paid employment by legal persons.

Less than EUR 1,000 net earnings received by persons in paid employment with basic education or less in the age group 15–34 years

Men with basic education or less received net earnings lower than EUR 1,000 only in the age group 15–24 years, while women in all age groups from 15 to 64 years. Less than EUR 1,000 net per month was also received by women with upper secondary education aged 15–24 years. The difference in earnings between men and women is considerable among those with tertiary education, as men's net earnings were on average one fifth higher than women's. The difference between men and women with this level of education was the highest in the age group 35–44 years, where men received about a quarter more than women.

Teachers' aides are also among the lowest paid

They received on average around EUR 900 net per month and thus, in addition to hairdressers, cleaners, launderers, etc., were among the lowest paid workers. Among the highest paid were various managers, some of whom received on average more than EUR 5,000 net per month.

Among generalist medical practitioners, highest net earnings received by those from the Goriška and Koroška statistical regions

Specialist medical practitioners living in the Koroška, Posavska, Obalno-Kraška and Pomurska statistical regions earned on average more than EUR 3,000 net per month, while among generalist medical practitioners only those from the Goriška and Koroška statistical regions had such net earnings. Among pharmacists, the highest average monthly net earnings were received by persons in paid employment from the Jugovzhodna Slovenija statistical region (EUR 2,857), followed by those from Osrednjeslovenska (EUR 2,585), Posavska (EUR 2,408), Gorenjska (EUR 2,383) and Zasavska (EUR 2,356).

EU citizens (except Slovenia) employed in financial and insurance activities earned significantly more than citizens of Slovenia

In these activities, citizens of Slovenia received on average EUR 1,955 net per month, while EU citizens (except Slovenia) received EUR 4,894. A difference, albeit not as large, in net earnings in favour of EU citizens (except Slovenia) compared to citizens of Slovenia was also observed in some other activities: in human health and social work activities, in information and communication, in arts, entertainment and recreation, and in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles. On the other hand, non-EU citizens earned more than citizens of Slovenia only in financial and insurance activities, namely by a third.

In terms of educational attainment, mathematicians and statisticians earned the most

Among men, those with completed education in the field of mathematics and statistics earned the most (EUR 2,256 net), and among women those with completed education in the field of law (EUR 1,892 net). More than EUR 2,000 net was earned in the public sector by those with completed veterinary education, and in the private sector by those with completed inter-disciplinary programmes and qualifications involving natural sciences, mathematics and statistics and with an education in mathematics and statistics.
