Physical energy flow accounts, 2021
Resident units used more energy abroad
Resident units used 12.7% more energy abroad, while energy use of non-resident units in Slovenia remained virtually unchanged. Net domestic energy use increased by 2.7%.
Non-resident energy use in Slovenia up by 0.4%
Resident units abroad used 10,765 TJ of energy in 2021, which is a 12.7% increase over the previous year. Non-resident units in Slovenia used 7,981 TJ of energy, which is a 0.4% increase over the previous year.
Less energy extracted from natural resources
139,902 TJ of energy was obtained from natural resources, which is 7.3% decrease over the previous year. The most, 91.800 TJ (or 65.6% of all) of this energy was obtained in mining and quarrying (sector B of NACE Rev. 2), followed by electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (D) with 25,186 (18.0%), agriculture, forestry and fishing (A) with 22.622 TJ (16.1%), public administration and defence (O) with 167 TJ (0.1%) and manufacturing (C) with 127 TJ (also 0.1%).
Net domestic energy use up
Net domestic energy use increased by 2.7% and amounted to 284,074 TJ. The largest amount of that energy (71,620 TJ or 25.2%) was used in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (D), followed by manufacturing (C) with 61,108 TJ (21.5%), transport and storage (H) with 19,902 TJ (7.0%), construction and demolition (F) with 14,384 TJ (5.1%), wholesale and retail trade (G) with 12,620 TJ (4.4%) and all other NACE activities with 23,522 TJ (8.3%). Net domestic energy use in households amounted to 80,918 TJ (28.5%).
2020 and 2021 were affected by the COVID-19 epidemic and accompanying measures, which is partially mirrored in trends of energy use of resident and non-resident units.
Tables with the latest data are available in the SiStat Database.
