Mostly due to annual leave, decrease in the total number of hours worked

In the 2nd quarter of 2023, persons in paid employment in Slovenia who received a wage and/or a non-refunded wage compensation paid by the employer worked 306.2 million hours, 3.6% less than in the same quarter of 2022. Compared to the previous quarter, the share of hours worked in paid hours decreased to 75.3%.

Such a decrease in the total number of hours worked was affected by less working days, a lower number of paid hours worked and a higher number of annual leave hours used.

A person in paid employment worked on average less hours

A person in paid employment worked on average 126 hours per month, 4.4% less (i.e. 5 working hours) than in the same quarter of 2022. This was mainly due to a higher number of used annual leave hours.

Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2022, the average monthly number of hours worked by a person in paid employment went down the least in transportation and storage (by 1%) and the most in public administration, defence and compulsory social security (by 6.8%).

The highest number of hours worked by persons employed in transportation and storage and in information and communication

The highest average monthly number of hours (131 or 5 more than the national average) was worked by persons employed in transportation and storage and in information and communication. The main reason was a higher number of paid and unpaid overtime hours worked.

The largest annual decrease in public administration, defence and compulsory social security

The total number of hours worked decreased in all activities, except in transportation and storage. The decrease was the highest in public administration, defence and compulsory social security (by 7.5%).
