One in five overnight stays generated by domestic tourists

Both arrivals and overnight stays of domestic tourists decreased by a tenth over July last year, but increased by a tenth compared to July 2019. Almost 163,000 arrivals and 607,000 overnight stays were recorded, the largest number in the municipalities of Piran, Izola and Ankaran, where a third of all domestic overnight stays were generated. 

Foreign tourists generated about 877,000 arrivals and 2.3 million overnight stays, which was 15% more than in July last year and in July 2019. The largest number of overnight stays was generated in Ljubljana, Piran and Bled.

Domestic tourist generated 21% and foreign 79% of all overnight stays.  

The largest number of overnight stays by tourists from Germany

Tourists from Germany generated almost 387,200 overnight stays, or 17% of all foreign overnight stays. They spent the largest number of nights in municipality Bovec. Tourist from Czechia generated 242,700 overnight stays (11%) and spent the largest number of nights in Bohinj. Tourists from the Netherlands generated a tenth of foreign overnight stays, the largest number in the municipality of Radovljica. They were followed by tourists from Belgium (7%), Hungary (6%) and Austria (5%).  

Domestic tourists generated the largest number of overnight stays in seaside resorts and foreign in mountain resorts

As regards the types of municipalities, the largest share of tourist overnight stays was recorded in mountain resorts (39%), the most in municipality Bled. Seaside resorts were second with 21%, the most in Piran, and health (spa) resorts were third with 14%, the most in Brežice. 

In mountain resorts 7% more overnight stays were generated than in the same period last year and 21% more than in July 2019. 

Domestic tourists spent the largest number of nights in seaside resorts, where they generated 36% of all domestic overnight stays. Foreign tourists spent the largest number of nights in mountain resorts, where they generated 44% of all foreign overnight stays.

In private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings more than a quarter of all overnight stays

Tourists still generated the largest number of overnight stays in hotels (845,300 or 29% of all overnight stays), followed by private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings (28%) and camping sites (23%).

In July, almost 170,000 permanent bed places were available to tourists, which is 4% more than a year ago. 
 
In the first seven mounts of the year almost 9.2 million overnight stays

From the beginning of January to the end of July, almost 3.5 million tourist arrivals and almost 9.2 million overnight stays were recorded in Slovenia, which was 5% more than in the same period a year ago. 

So far this year, domestic tourists generated more than 2.6 million or 29% and foreign about 6.5 million or 71% overnight stays. While domestic tourists generated a quarter fewer overnight stays than last year in this period, foreign generated a quarter more.
