Fewer tertiary education graduates than a year earlier
About 500 fewer students successfully completed tertiary education in Slovenia than in the previous year.
About 16,100 tertiary education graduates
In 2022, 16,111 students successfully completed tertiary education in Slovenia, which is 3.3% fewer than a year earlier. There were 0.6% more graduates at higher vocational colleges (2,233) and 3.9% fewer at higher education institutions (13,878). 62,3% of higher education graduates attained 1st cycle degree, 34,4% 2nd cycle degree and 3,3% 3rd cycle degree. As in previous years, there were more women than men and more full-time students than part-time among tertiary education graduates.
Most graduates of business, administration and law
Compared to 2021, the number of graduates decreased in all fields of education, except in agriculture, forestry, fisheries and veterinary (up by 9.8%), natural sciences, mathematics and statistics (up by 7.1%), information and communication technologies (ICTs) (up by 2.5%) and health and welfare (up by 1.3%).
As in previous years, the largest share of graduates completed studies in the fields of business, administration and law (18.3%), followed by engineering, manufacturing and construction (17.9%).
The highest share of women graduated in the fields of business, administration and law (20.1% of female graduates) and the lowest in the field of information and communication technologies (ICTs) (1.6%). The highest share of men graduated in the fields of engineering, manufacturing and construction (32.8% of male graduates) and the lowest in the fields of agriculture, forestry, fisheries and veterinary (2.6%).

44% of graduates under 25 years of age
Similarly as a year earlier, 44% of tertiary education graduates were less than 25 years old, and the mean age at graduation did not change significantly – it was 27.3 years.
The youngest were academic higher education graduates (23.9 years). 81% of them were less than 25 years old at the time of graduation, and about 96% were full-time students.
Graduates of uniform master studies (26.3 years) and professional higher education graduates (27.7 years) followed. Among the latter, 50% were under 25 years old at graduation and about 58% were full-time students.
Graduates of other types of education were on average over 29 years old, with the highest mean age reached by doctoral graduates (36.7 years).

Almost 1,200 foreign graduates
For the third consecutive year, more than 1,000 students of foreign nationality successfully completed tertiary education in Slovenia, namely 1,171, which is 3.5% more than in the previous year.
Their share among all tertiary education graduates was 7.4%, and it was the highest among doctoral graduates (16.2%).
48% of foreign graduates attained 2nd cycle degree, 43% 1st cycle degree, 6% doctorate of science and 3% higher vocational education.
