One in four foreign overnight stays in April was recorded in municipality Ljubljana
In April, tourist accommodation establishments recorded 440,000 tourist arrivals or 17% more than a year ago and over a million overnight stays or 13% more than a year ago. Tourists spent most nights in municipalities Ljubljana, Piran and Bled.
More foreign and fewer domestic tourists than a year ago
Tourist accommodation establishments recorded 116,000 arrivals of domestic tourists, which is 27% fewer than a year ago, and 310,000 overnight stays, which is 22% fewer than a year ago. They generated 30% of all overnight stays in April and spent the most nights in municipalities Piran, Brežice and Moravske Toplice.
Foreign tourists generated more than 324,000 arrivals, which is 48% more than a year ago, and about 737,000 overnight stays, which is 39% more than a year ago. The largest number of foreign tourist overnight stays was recorded in municipality Ljubljana, followed by Piran and Bled. Foreign tourists generated 70% of all overnight stays in April.
The largest number of tourists from Italy
Tourists from Italy generated almost 117,100 overnight stays, or 16% of all foreign overnight stays. They spent the most nights in municipality Ljubljana. Tourist from Germany, who generated more than 94,000 overnight stays (13%), also spent the most nights in Ljubljana. They were followed by tourists from neighbouring countries: Austria (12%), Hungary (6%) and Croatia (5%).
There is a noticeable trend of tourists from other continents returning to Slovenia. The United States of America contributed 21,400 overnight stays and was among the top ten countries with the most overnight stays in April.
The largest number of overnight stays in health (spa) resorts
As regards the types of municipalities, the largest share of tourist overnight stays was recorded in health (spa) resorts, almost 239,000 (23%), the most in municipality Brežice. Health (spa) resorts were followed by seaside and mountain resorts (21% each) and Ljubljana (18%).
Domestic tourists generated the largest number of overnight stays in health (spa) resorts and foreign in mountain resorts.
Hotels are still the most popular
Tourists generated the largest number of overnight stays in hotels (542,100 or 52% of all overnight stays), followed by private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings (21%).
In the first four months more than 3.3 million overnight stays
From the beginning of January to the end of April 2023, almost 1.3 million tourist arrivals and more than 3.3 million overnight stays were recorded in Slovenia, which is 15% more than in the same period a year ago. Tourist from Italy generated the most overnight stays so far, almost a tenth of all.
Domestic tourist generated almost 1.3 million overnight stays and foreign almost 2.1 million. While domestic tourists generated 13% fewer overnight stays than last year in this period, foreign generated 42% more.
