The economic sentiment up for the first time this year
The economic sentiment improved at the monthly level, mostly due to the confidence indicator in retail trade.
Higher at the monthly level …
In August, the economic sentiment improved after a downward trend that had lasted since the beginning of the year. This time, the value of the sentiment indicator reached −5.9 percentage points (p.p.), and was 0.6 p.p. higher than the month before (−6.5 p.p.).
The biggest contributor to this increase was the confidence indicator in retail trade (by 0.9 p.p.), while the confidence indicator in manufacturing also had a positive influence (by 0.3 p.p.). The change in the value was negatively influenced by confidence indicators among consumers (by 0.3 p.p.), in services (by 0.2 p.p.), and in construction (also by 0.2 p.p.).
… but lower at the annual level
Compared to last year’s August, the value of the sentiment indicator was lower by 5.7 p.p.
The decrease was influenced by the lower values of four out of five indicators: the most in manufacturing (by 3.6 p.p.) and less in services (by 2.4 p.p.), construction (by 0.5 p.p.), and retail trade (by 0.1 p.p.). Only the confidence indicator among consumers had a positive impact (by 0.9 p.p.).
