Unchanged consumer confidence indicator at the monthly level
In May, consumer confidence remained unchanged at the monthly level, but improved at the annual level.
Consumer confidence the same as in the previous month
Compared to April, the value of the consumer confidence indicator remained the same, and was 8 percentage points (p.p.) below the long-term average.
Among its components, consumers’ expectations for major purchases improved by 2 p.p., about households’ finances by 1 p.p., and about the country’s economy also by 1 p.p. Only the indicator of current households’ finances slightly deteriorated (by 1 p.p.).
Improvement at the annual level
Compared to a year ago, the value of the consumer confidence indicator was 2 p.p. higher, and was 3 p.p. above last year’s average.
The annual increase in the value of the confidence indicator resulted from more optimistic consumer expectations about households’ finances (by 10 p.p.) and about the country’s economy (by 6 p.p.). On the other hand, opinions on current households’ finances deteriorated (by 9 p.p.). The indicator of expectations about major purchases was at the level of last year’s May.
