Tourists preferred the seaside abroad and countryside in Slovenia
Last year, Slovenian residents went on more than 5 million private trips, which is 7% more than in a year earlier. More than half of all private trips were made abroad. The most visited foreign destination was Croatia.
More private trips, with two thirds of residents having travelled
Around 1.2 million Slovenian residents or 66% of the total population aged 15 years or more went on at least one private trip, which is 6 percentage points more than in 2021. They generated around 5.3 million private trips, which is 7% more than in the previous year.
The most popular destination on 46% of private trips (more than one answer was possible) was the seaside, followed by cities (24%) and the countryside (22%). The largest shares of tourists on private trips in Slovenia chose the countryside and trips to spa centres as their destination. Seaside predominated abroad.
Six out of ten private trips abroad to Croatia
48% of all private trips were made in Slovenia and 52% abroad. On private trips abroad domestic tourists chose rented accommodations and hotels, while in Slovenia they stayed mostly with friends and family.
The most visited foreign destination was Croatia (60% of all private trips abroad), followed by Italy (9%), Bosnia and Herzegovina (9%) and Austria (4%).
At the annual level, 15% more overnight stays
There were in total 23 million overnight stays on private trips. The trips lasted on average 5 overnight stays (2.7 overnight stays in Slovenia, 5 abroad), while average daily expenditure on these trips amounted to around EUR 207 per person (EUR 74 in Slovenia, EUR 207 abroad). Tourists staying in hotels and similar accommodation establishments spent on average the most per day (EUR 128; EUR 97 in Slovenia, EUR 145 abroad) and tourists staying in their own holiday home the least (EUR 40; EUR 52 in Slovenia, EUR 40 abroad).
Number of business trips up by almost a quarter
Slovenian residents also went on around 511,000 business or study trips last year, which was almost a quarter (24%) more than a year earlier. Business trips abroad involved on average 5.2 overnight stays, while average daily expenditure on these trips amounted to around EUR 143 per person.
