Natural decrease and positive net migration
In the third quarter of 2022, natural decrease was –361, and net migration was positive by 2,176 persons.
Fewer live births and more deaths
In the third quarter of 2022, 4,755 live births and 5,116 deaths were recorded in Slovenia. Compared to the third quarter of 2021, the number of live births was 506 (10%) lower, while the number of deaths was 276 (6%) higher.
Usually, in the third quarter of the year, natural increase is registered, but provisional data for 2022 indicate a change. In 2022, the number of deaths between July and September exceeded the number of births for the third time in the last 46 years. Natural population change was negative: –361; in one year the value per 1,000 population changed from 0.8 to –0.7.
Fewer marriages and fewer divorces
In the third quarter of 2022, 2,735 couples were married or 116 (4%) fewer than in the same quarter of 2021, and 450 couples were divorced or 21 (4%) fewer than in the same quarter of 2021.
Increase in internal migration
In the third quarter of 2022, 29,902 people migrated internally, which is 4% more than in the same period of 2021.
Net migration of Slovenian citizens negative
Compared to the same period of 2021, the number of immigrants to Slovenia increased by 16% to 8,189 in the third quarter of 2022.The number of emigrants increased by 4% to 6,013. The number of emigrated citizens of Slovenia (1,885) was lower than the number of emigrated foreigners (4,128).
Positive net migration was recorded for foreign nationals (2,564 persons). Net migration of Slovene citizens was negative: 388 more emigrated from Slovenia than immigrated to it.
