More occasional employees work at the same higher education institution in which they are employed
The number of pedagogical occasional employees at higher education institutions and vocational colleges increased by about 6%. The increase was higher for full- or part-time employed (11%) than for those who were not employed by these institutions (3%).
Most pedagogical occasional work at the tertiary level performed at higher education institutions
In the 2021/22 academic year, 5,242 occasional employees performed pedagogical work at higher education institutions and 1,061 at vocational colleges. Of the 6,303 occasional employees (52.5% of them men and 47.5% women), 42.8% were full- or part-time employed at these institutions.
The number of pedagogical occasional employees is steadily increasing
In the 2021/22 academic year, the total number of pedagogical occasional employees at higher education institutions / vocational colleges increased by 6.4% over the previous academic year and by 18.8% compared to the 2019/20 academic year.
More occasional employees without having full- or part-time employment at higher education institutions / vocational colleges
In the 2021/22 academic year, we recorded 3,607 occasional pedagogical workers who were teaching without having full- or part-time employment at higher education institutions / vocational colleges, which is 3.1% more than in the previous academic year and 17.7% more than in the 2019/20 academic year.
Three quarters of individuals (48.3% of them men and 51.7% women) were also employed at higher education institutions and a quarter at vocational colleges (59.7% of them men and 40.3% women).
The number of occasional employees having full- or part-time employment in higher education institutions increased more than the number of occasional employees in general
In the 2021/22 academic year, 2,479 occasional employees were full- or part-time employed at the same higher education institutions, which is 12.3% more than in the previous academic year and 21.9% more than in the 2019/20 academic year.
The number of occasional employees who were full- or part-time employed at vocational colleges remained the same (217 individuals), with the change in the gender structure (there were 15 more women).
In the 2021/22 academic year, almost two thirds of occasional employees at higher education institutions and a quarter at vocational colleges had 3rd cycle higher education
In the 2021/21 academic year, 60.0% of occasional employees at higher education institutions had 3rd cycle of higher education and 40.0% had 2nd cycle of higher education.
In the same academic year, 25.4% of occasional employees at vocational colleges had 1st cycle of higher education, 47.5% had 2nd cycle of higher education and 27.1% 3rd cycle of higher education.

At vocational colleges 7 percentage points more pension recipients than in higher education institutions
Among those who were not employed full- or part-time at higher education institutions, the largest share was employed elsewhere (78.5%), almost one in five had the status of a pension recipient (17.5%), 3.4% were inactive on the labour market, 67.0% of them women, while 18 students had part-time teaching jobs at this level of education.
Most occasional pedagogical workers who were teaching at vocational colleges without having full- or part-time employment at vocational colleges were employed elsewhere (66.0%), one in four was retired (24.5%), 65 individuals were inactive on the labour market, of whom there were more women (58.5%) than men (41.5%), while 15 students also did part-time work at this level of education.
