Livestock slaughter in slaughterhouses, September 2022
The same amount of meat gained as in the previous month
About 3,497,000 poultry, about 17,000 pigs and about 11,000 cattle were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses in September 2022. In this way, Slovene slaughterhouses gained about 6,300 tonnes of poultry meat, 1,500 tonnes of pig meat and 3,200 tonnes of bovine meat.
Slaughter of cattle and horses up over the previous month
Compared to the previous month, the slaughter of cattle went up by about 22% (about 2,000 animals) and of horses by about 9% (exactly 4 animals). On the other hand, the number of slaughtered sheep went down by about 20% (about 200 animals), of pigs by about 11% (about 2,000 animals) and of poultry by about 5% (about 193,000 animals).
The total carcass weight of slaughtered cattle went up by about 19% (weight difference of about 506 tonnes) and of horses by about 17% (weight difference of about 1 tonne), while the total carcass weight of slaughtered sheep went down by about 16% (weight difference of about 2 tonnes), of pigs by about 10% (weight difference of about 169 tonnes) and of poultry by about 5% (weight difference of about 320 tonnes).

Fewer animals slaughtered than a year ago, except cattle
At the annual level, the slaughter of cattle went up by about 4%. On the other hand, the number of slaughtered horses went down by exactly 40%, of sheep by exactly 28%, of pigs by about 14% and of poultry by about 1%.
The total carcass weight of slaughtered horses went down by about 47%, of sheep by about 26%, of pigs by about 11%, of poultry by about 3% and of cattle by about 2%
In September 2022, we recorded slaughter of 7 cattle imported from Croatia and Italy. The total weight of dressed carcass was about 2 tonnes. There was no record of slaughter of imported pigs or poultry in Slovene slaughterhouses.
