More births than deaths
According to provisional data for September 2022, 5% fewer children were born and 13% fewer people died than in September last year. September was the first month in 2022 with natural increase; 42 more births than deaths were recorded.
Fewer live births
1,592 children were born (87 or 5% fewer than in September 2021). On average 53 children were born per day (3 fewer than a year before).
Fewer deaths
1,550 people died. This is 227 (13%) fewer than in September 2021 and 218 (12%) fewer than in August 2022. On average 52 people died per day (59 a year earlier).
Excess mortality (i.e. excess number of deaths compared to the average number of deaths in September in 2015–2019) was 3%.
What do data for October show us?
According to the first estimate, 940 people died between 1 and 16 October 2022. In the same period of 2021, 989 people died.
