Tourism travels of domestic population, 1st quarter 2022

Domestic tourist in Slovenia and abroad spent on average EUR 94 per day

In the selected period 22% of Slovenian residents aged 15 or more made at least one private trip. All together there were around 50% more trips made than in the same period last year. More private trips were made in Slovenia.

A little fewer than one million tourist trips

In January, February and March resident population aged 15 or more made around 976.000 trips. 377.000 or 22% of resident population made at least one private trip, which is 12 percentage points more than in the 1st quarter of 2021 and 7 percentage points more than in 2020. During this period, they made around 866.000 private trips, 68% of them in Slovenia and 32% abroad.

In the selected period residents of Slovenia made around 3.113.000 overnight stays on all trips. Private trips involved on average 2.5 overnight stays in Slovenia and 4.3 abroad. On 35% of private trips they were accommodated at relatives and friends, and on 28% of private trips they spent the night in hotels and similar accommodations.

Expenditures of domestic tourists in Slovenia increased compared to the same period in 2021

Private trips participants spent on average around EUR 87 per person per day. Those who went on private trips in Slovenia spent on average around EUR 82 per person per day and those who went on private trips abroad around EUR 94 per person per day.

More business trips abroad

In the 1st quarter of 2022, 73,000 or 4% of Slovenian residents aged 15 or more went on at least one business trip, which is 2 percentage points more than in the same period in 2021. During this period, they made around 110,000 business trips.

Average daily expenditure on business trips was EUR 136 per person. Business trips involved on average 4 overnight stays in the observed period (1.8 overnight stays in Slovenia and 6 abroad). 

20% of Slovenian residents did not travel due to lack of free time for travel

1 in 4 Slovenian residents aged 15 or more who did not go on a private trip in the selected period stated the lack of free time due to work or study as the main reason, one fifth (20%) stated financial reasons and 16% did not go because of COVID-19 pandemic.
