More than 20.3 million tonnes of goods carried by train
Most of the goods carried by train were so-called other goods (unidentifiable goods in containers and a mixture of types of goods).
More passenger wagons, fewer freight wagons
The railway network in the Republic of Slovenia consists of 1,209 km of railway lines, of which 330 km double tracks and 610 km electrified. In 2021, Slovenian Railways possesed 362 tractive vehicles, 152 of them locomotives, 210 railcars, 442 passenger wagons and 2,581 freight wagons. In one year the number of locomotives increased by 2, of railcars by 48 and of passenger wagons by 86, while the number of freight wagons decreased by 112. There were 89 freight wagons in private property, which is 29% more than a year earlier.
Rail goods transport up
In 2021, more than 20.3 million tonnes of goods were carried by train and almost 4,937 million tonne-kilometres were performed. Railway goods transport expressed in tonnes and in tonne-kilometres increased by 5% over the previous year. 86% of goods were carried in international transport, including transit.
Considering the type of goods, most of the goods carried by train (38%, expressed in tonnes and 40%, expressed in tonne-kilometres) were so-called other goods (unidentifiable goods in containers and a mixture of types of goods). They were followed by goods classified within mining and quarrying (21%). The third most carried type of goods were coal, gas, petrol and refined products, which represented 17% when expressed in tonnes and 16% when expressed in tonne-kilometres.
More than 1.71 million tonnes of dangerous goods were carried by train, which is 4% more than in 2020. Flammable liquids still represent the largest share, accounting for 91% of all dangerous goods carried.
