Green growth indicators, 2020
Share of environmental taxes has been decreasing in recent years
The share of environmental taxes compared to all taxes and social distributions has been declining since 2015. In 2015, it was 10.3% and in 2020 7.4%.
Energy productivity is constantly increasing
In 2020, energy productivity increased by 15% compared to 2015. In the same period, material and water productivity also increased, the first by 12% and the second by 9%, but they did not constantly increase from year to year like energy productivity. Gross nitrogen balance surplus on utilised agricultural area was record low and amounted to 32 kilograms per hectare, which is 13 kilograms less than in 2015.
Growing stock in forest still increasing
In 2020, growing stock in forest increased by 3% compared to 2015. The value of the indicator is increasing but not as intensely as 10–15 years ago. The share of utilised agricultural area increased by 0.4 of a percentage point in the last five years and in 2020 was 23.9%. The share of aquaculture increased by 2.5 percentage points compared to 2015. However, compared to 2019, it decreased by 3.2 percentage points.
Higher share of areas intended for organic farming
The share of utilised agricultural area with organic farming or in conversion was higher again. In relation to total utilised agricultural area, the share was 10.8% in 2020. In 2015, it was 8.9%.
The indicator unsuitable samples due to E.coli (Escherichia coli) in different sized supply areas shows that in the last five years drinking water quality improved in all four supply areas (smallest, small, medium-sized and large). The most prominent progress is visible at small supply areas. In 2015, the share of unsuitable samples was 2%; in 2020, it was 0.4%. The share in the smallest supply areas was 7.6% in 2015; in 2020, it was 5.6%.
Share of environmental taxes is decreasing
The share of environmental taxes decreased significantly over the last five years. In 2015, the share compared to all taxes and social distributions was 10.3%; in 2020, it was 7.4%. In the same period, the shares increased at separately collected municipal waste (% of total collected) and at population connected to the treatment plants with at least a secondary level of treatment. The first indicator increased by 3.4 percentage points (to 72.2%) and the second by 7.3 percentage points (to 67.3%). Compared to 2019, the shares of both indicators decreased, namely the first by 0.6 of a percentage point and the second by 0.2 of a percentage point.

METHODOLOGICAL NOTE
According to the NIJZ methodology, the indicator Unsuitable samples due to E.coli (Escherichia coli) in different sized supply areas divided the current size class small supply areas (50–1.000 inhabitants) into two size classes. The first size class in now named smallest supply areas (50–500 inhabitants) and the second small supply areas (501–1.000 inhabitants). The decision to divide into two classes was made due to significant differences (especially obvious in recent years) between them in the share of unsuitable samples due to faecal contamination with already mentioned E.coli bacterium.
