Consumer confidence lower at the monthly level

The value of the consumer confidence indicator decreased by 1 percentage point (p.p.) compared to August.

The monthly decrease in the confidence indicator resulted from more pessimistic consumer expectations about households’ finances (by 5 p.p.) and about the country’s economy (by 2 p.p.). On the other hand, expectations about major purchases slightly improved (by 1 p.p.). Consumer opinion on current households’ finances remained at the level of the previous month.

A downward trend is also notable in the indicator of prices over the last 12 months, as it reached its highest value since June 2008, which means that more and more consumers seem to notice higher prices.

Decline also at the annual level

Compared to September 2021, the consumer confidence indicator deteriorated by 19 p.p.

All four components of the consumer confidence indicator deteriorated at the annual level: expectations about households’ finances by 26 p.p., expectations about the country’s economy by 20 p.p., current households’ finances by 18 p.p., and expectations for major purchases by 12 p.p.
