Consumer sentiment at its lowest since April 2020

Slovenian consumers are increasingly pessimistic about the financial situation of the household; the indicator of the financial situation of the household over the next 12 months reached its lowest level in the entire observation period.

Consumer sentiment worse than previous month

The consumer confidence indicator worsened by 6 percentage points (p.p.) over the previous month and fell to its lowest value since April 2020.

The monthly decrease in the confidence indicator resulted mainly from more pessimistic consumer expectations about the country’s economy (by 12 p.p.). The other components of the confidence indicator also deteriorated: expectations about households’ finances by 5 p.p., opinion on current households’ finances by 4 p.p., and expectations about major purchases by 3 p.p.

Compared to June, all other indicators also worsened, and the indicator of expectations about households’ finances even fell to its lowest value in the entire observation period.

Consumer sentiment worse than previous year

The value of the consumer confidence indicator was 22 p.p. lower than a year ago, and was 17 p.p. below last year’s average.

All four components of the confidence indicator deteriorated at the annual level as well: expectations about households’ finances by 29 p.p., expectations about the country’s economy by 26 p.p., opinion on current households’ finances by 16 p.p., and expectations about major purchases by 14 p.p.

Lower expectations about home improvement

The consumers’ expectations about home improvements worsened compared to April 2022 by 5 p.p. Expectations about home purchase slightly improved (by 1 p.p.), while expectations about car purchase remained at the same level.
