Business tendency, June 2022
Confidence lower in all four economic sectors
The confidence indicator decreased at the monthly level in all four economic sectors, most notably in construction and retail trade. It was also lower at the annual level, except in services, where it was slightly higher. Expected prices fell in two sectors – industry and construction.
The manufacturing confidence indicator was lower at the monthly and annual level, by 2 and 11 percentage points (p.p.). The value of the indicator was equal to the long-term average.
The decrease was mainly due to the lower overall orders books and the stocks of finished products (the former deteriorated by 4 and the latter by 3 p.p.), while the expected production indicator increased by 1 p.p. The expected price indicator also decreased by 3 p.p.
… in retail trade
The confidence indicator in retail trade was lower at the monthly level for the second consecutive month. It decreased by 4 p.p. as well as by 3 p.p. at the annual level. However, it was 12 p.p. higher than the long-term average.
The sales and expected sales indicator improved (by 5 and 4 p.p., respectively), but the confidence indicator was reduced due to a sharp deterioration in the stock volume indicator (by 21 p.p.). The expected price indicator also increased in June (by 3 p.p.).
… in construction
The construction confidence indicator was lower at the monthly and annual level, by 6 and 1 p.p. respectively, yet it was higher by 29 p.p. above the long-term average.
The monthly decrease was influenced by both confidence indicators: the expected employment and the overall order books (the former was higher by 7 p.p. and the latter by 4 p.p.). The expected price indicator also decreased by 2 p.p.
… in services
At the monthly level, the services confidence indicator dropped by 1 p.p. Compared to June 2021 and the long-term average, it was higher by 2 p.p. and 8 p.p., respectively.
The confidence indicator decreased at the monthly level due to lower demand indicator (by 4 p.p.) and lower business situation indicator (by 1 p.p.). After several consecutive months of growth, the expected price indicator remained the same as last month.
