Most domestic tourist overnight stays in health (spa) resorts
In December 2021, domestic tourists generated 71% of all tourist overnight stays in tourist accommodation establishments in Slovenia. They generated almost twice as many overnight stays as in December of record breaking 2019.
Domestic tourists generated 546,400 overnight stays
In December 2021, tourist accommodation establishments in Slovenia recorded approximately 295,000 tourist arrivals and almost 766,300 overnight stays. Many more tourist arrivals and overnight stays were recorded than in December 2020, due to eased COVID-19 epidemic measures in the field of tourism.
Domestic tourists generated approximately 212,700 arrivals and 546,400 overnight stays, which is almost twice as many as in December 2019.
Foreign tourists generated slightly more than 82,200 arrivals (62% fewer than in December 2019) and 219,900 overnight stays (56% fewer than in December 2019).
Most foreign overnight stays generated by tourists from Croatia
Most foreign overnight stays in December 2021 were generated by tourists from Croatia (almost 27,700 or 13% of all foreign overnight stays). They were followed by tourists from Italy (11%), Austria (8%), Serbia (8%) and Germany (6%).
Approximately the same number of tourist overnight stays in mountain and health (spa) resorts
As regards the types of municipalities, most tourist overnight stays in December 2021 were recorded in mountain resorts (231,400 or 30% of all overnight stays) and health (spa) resorts (228,000 or 30% of all overnight stays), followed by seaside resorts (13%) and Ljubljana (10%).
While domestic tourists generated the most overnight stays in health (spa) resorts (198,400 or 36% of all domestic overnight stays), foreign tourists generated the most overnight stays in the municipality of Ljubljana (57,200 or 26% of all foreign overnight stays).
Hotels the most popular among accommodation establishment types
Domestic and foreign tourists generated the most overnight stays in hotels (405,000 stays or 53% of all overnight stays and 12% fewer than in December 2019), followed by private accommodations - rented rooms, dwellings (24% of all overnight stays or 25% more than in December 2019) and apartment settlements (3% of all overnight stays or 20% fewer than in December 2019).
In 2021, more than 11 million tourist overnight stays
From the beginning of January to the end of December 2021, approximately 4 million tourist arrivals (31% more than in the same period in 2020) and approximately 11.3 million overnight stays (22% more than in the same period in 2020) were recorded in Slovenia.
