The number of persons in employment up again

In November 2021, there were more than 913,400 persons in employment, which was again the highest number. This time, their number increased the most in education, while the majority of persons in paid employment in this activity had a contract for an indefinite period (80.2%).

The number of persons in employment up by 1,600

At the end of November 2021, there were more than 913,400 persons in employment (by 2.7% more than a year ago). Once again, the number of persons in employment reached a new highest value (which is the fifth month in a row) since we started monitoring register-based data on employment. Most persons in employment were in manufacturing (22.8%), followed by wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (12.7%).

The number of persons in paid employment and self-employed persons increased by 0.2% (the former to about 816,400, the latter to more than 97,000). The numbers of both also increased on an annual basis, namely the number of the former by 2.7% and of the latter by 2.2%. The number of persons in paid employment on an annual basis increased the most in manufacturing and of the self-employed in construction. On an annual basis, the number of persons in paid employment by legal persons went up by 2.9%, while the number of persons in paid employment by natural persons went down by 0.4%.

The number of women in employment increased more

There were about 502,100 men in employment (by 0.1% more than in October 2021) and more than 411,300 women in employment (by 0.3% more than in the previous month). Among men in paid employment, 78.3% had an employment contract for an indefinite period (most in the age group 40-44, 15.5%) and among women in paid employment, 81.6% women (most in the age group 45-49, 16.4%). In both genders, persons in paid employment with an employment contract for an indefinite period were the most numerous in manufacturing (31.9% of men and 17.1% of women).

In more than half of the activities the number of persons in employment went up

In November 2021, on a monthly basis, the number of persons in employment decreased in eight and increased in twelve activities. It increased the most in education activities (by 0.5%, to about 77,200). If we look at the period of the last 20 years, we can see that in November 2021 the number of persons in employment in this activity was the highest so far. The number of persons in employment in this period was the lowest in August 2002 (by 30.2% fewer). In November 2021, 20.7% of persons in employment in this activity were men and 79.3% were women. Among men in paid employment, 78.0% of men and among women in paid employment, 80.8% of women had an employment contract for an indefinite period.

This time the number of persons in employment decreased the most in accommodation and food service activities (by 0.3%, to about 37,200). The decrease in this activity was recorded for the second month in a row. Before that, the number of persons in employment increased for seven consecutive months. In November 2021, 42.4% of persons in employment in this activity were men and 57.6% were women.
