According to the Directive on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources, Slovenia is obliged to achieve a 25% share of energy from renewable sources in gross final energy consumption for 2020. To achieve the goal, Slovenia had to provide the missing share of energy from renewable sources through the mechanism of statistical transfer of renewable energy from another EU Member State, as the achieved share for 2020 was 24.1%. The statistical transfer of 465 GWh of energy from renewable sources was carried out based on an agreement with Czechia.

Taking into account the statistical transfer of renewable energy, the share of energy from renewable sources in gross final energy consumption in Slovenia in 2020 was 25%. The share in the heating and cooling sector was 32.1%, in the electricity sector 35.1% and in the transport sector 10.9%, thus the sectoral target for transport (10%) was also achieved.
