Value of trade in goods higher in the first nine months

Compared to September last year, both groups of countries recorded an increase in the value of exports of goods, while imports of goods decreased. In the first nine months, compared to the same period last year, there was an increase in value, particularly in exports to EU non-member countries.

Key statistics for September 2025

Exports (EUR 6.0 billion):
  • Value 11.8% higher than a year ago.
  • The value of exports to EU Member States went up by 4.5% and to EU non-member countries by 18.9%; without operations involving processing1, exports to the latter decreased by 6.1% to EUR 837 million.
Imports (EUR 5.4 billion):
  • Value down by 5.3%.
  • The value of imports from EU Member States went down by 1.1% and from EU non-member countries by 9.2%; without operations involving processing1, imports from the latter increased by 11.3% to EUR 878 million.

The export-import ratio in September was 110.7%. Slovenia generated a surplus of EUR 0.6 billion in external trade in goods.


In the first nine months, exports grew more than imports

In the first nine months of this year, external trade in goods was higher than in the same period last year. The value of exports went up by 21.1% (to EUR 55.2 billion), and the value of imports by 7.9% (to EUR 52.6 billion).

The value increased in goods trade with both groups of countries: with EU Member States exports by 0.9% and imports by 0.3%, and with EU non-member countries exports by 42.4% and imports by 15.3%.

The surplus amounted to EUR 2.5 billion, while the export-import ratio was 104.8%.


Higher exports, lower imports in the 3rd quarter

In this year’s 3rd quarter, the value of exports was 1.4% higher, and the value of imports 14.8% lower than in the previous quarter. Import value decreased with both groups of countries – the decline was larger as regards EU non-member countries –, while export value went up only in trade with EU non-member countries.

The value of trade in goods is again in surplus in the 3rd quarter, but slightly less than in the 1st quarter of this year.

The export-import ratio in the 3rd quarter of this year was 107.3%. The surplus amounted to EUR 1.2 billion.

In 3rd quarter, year-on-year growth of exports

Compared to last year’s 3rd quarter, the value of goods exports was higher by 11.1% and of imports lower by 0.9%. Growth was observed in exports from both groups of countries, while as regards imports a value decline was recorded. The growth in the value of exports of goods was mainly due to trade in goods with EU non-member countries.

Year-on-year, the value of exports increased in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters, while imports decreased slightly in the 3rd quarter with both groups of countries and in the 2nd quarter with EU Member States.

METHODOLOGICAL NOTE
1 Operations involving processing include modification, making, composition, improvement and renovation with the aim to produce new or significantly improved products.

Monthly data for 2025 are provisional. With each release the data can be corrected and completed with new data. Final data for 2025 will be published in June 2026.
