Fewer persons in employment, more notable decrease among those with fixed-term contracts
In August, the number of persons in employment decreased by 0.2% to about 938,200. The number of employees went down and the number of self-employed persons up. A decrease was recorded in more than half of sections of activities, the largest in manufacturing.

Fewer employees, more self-employed
In comparison with July, the number of persons in employment decreased by about 1,500 or 0.2%, to about 938,200. The number of employees declined by just over 1,600 or 0.2%, while the number of self-employed persons slightly increased, by just over 100 or 0.1%.
At the monthly level, the number of men in employment decreased by about 800 or 0.2%, and the number of women in employment by almost 700 or also 0.2%.
By the type of employment, the number of employees with fixed-term contracts decreased on a monthly basis by about 1,400 (a 1.0% decline, to around 140,400). The number of employees with permanent contracts also fell, by about 200, to around 692,200.
Compared to a year ago, the number of persons in employment decreased by 0.4%. The number of employees went down by 0.6%, while the number of self-employed persons was up by 1.5%. The number of men in employment decreased by 0.6%, and of women in employment by 0.1%.
Slight decrease in the number of foreign citizens in employment
By groups of citizenship (excluding farmers), the number of Slovenian citizens in employment decreased more noticeably, by just over 1,100 or 0.1% at the monthly level. The number of foreign citizens in employment also went down, by just over 300 or 0.2%.
In the year-on-year comparison, the number of foreign citizens in employment was higher by 1.9%, while the number of Slovenian citizens was 0.7% lower.
Decrease recorded in more than half of sections of activities
At the monthly level, the number of persons in employment decreased in 12 sections of activities, remained the same in two, and increased in six. The largest decrease was recorded in manufacturing – by around 400 or 0.2% –, and the largest increase in human health and social work activities – by just over 100 or 0.2%.
Compared to August last year, the number of persons in employment also went up the most in human health and social work activities (by 3.5%) and down the most in manufacturing (by 1.8%). Overall, the number of persons in employment increased in 11 sections of activities and decreased in nine.
