In August a significant increase in the quantity of collected cows’ milk
Milk production has been increasing year-on-year in recent months. This August, over 6% more milk was collected from farms than a year ago. Dairies produced more butter and acidified milk, and less drinking milk, cheese and cream.
Milk production has been growing since last August
In August, around 49,200 tonnes of milk was collected from agricultural holdings, which was 0.1% more at the monthly level. Year-on-year, production increased by over 6%, continuing the upward trend that began last August.
Butter and drinking milk production up monthly, acidified milk and cream production down
Compared to July, dairies increased the production of butter substantially, by more than 43%. They also produced over 8% more drinking milk and slightly more cheese. On the other hand, the production of acidified milk products decreased by over 11% and of cream by about 5%.
Only butter and acidified milk production up year-on-year
Compared to August last year, dairies also produced over 43% more butter and over 8% more acidified milk products. On the other hand, they decreased the production of drinking milk by 8%, of cheese by more than 4% and of cream by more than 3%.
In the first eight months more butter and acidified milk and less other milk products
Butter production was almost 7% higher and acidified milk production almost 5% higher than in the first eight months of 2024. On the other hand, the production of cheese decreased by more than 4%, of cream by 3% and of drinking milk by just over 1%.
In the EU, more milk collected in July
Dairies in the EU collected 0.6% more cows’ milk in July 2025 than in July 2024. The quantity of collected milk increased the most in Hungary (by almost 16%) and decreased the most in Croatia (by almost 32%).
The price of raw milk in the EU slightly down
The price of raw milk in the EU decreased by 0.1% in July and amounted to EUR 0.528/kg. In August, it is expected to increase slightly.
