From January 2025 on, SKD 2025 instead of SKD 2008

On 1 January 2025, a new version of the Standard Classification of Activities, called SKD 2025, will come into force in Slovenia, replacing the current SKD 2008. SKD is the national version of the European statistical classification of economic activities NACE, so it follows the changes in NACE. More information about the current revision of both classifications is presented in the publication New version of the European and national classification of economic activities issued on 5 April 2024.

What do changes and additions of SKD bring?

The new version SKD 2025 brings the largest changes and additions in sections of trade, and information and communication activities. In trade, it no longer matters how the goods are distributed (in-store, online, stall, markets, vending machines). One of the significant changes is also the new definition of intermediary services. The most important differences between the new and currently valid SKD are described in the document Defferences between SKD 2008 and SKD 2025 (in Slovenian only).

The changes introduced by the revised version of SKD will require an adjustment in the use of SKD as a mandatory national standard for determining activities and classifying business entities and their units, intended for use in official and other administrative data collections and for statistical and analytical purposes at the national and international levels.

How is the SKD 2008 activity code converted to the new SKD 2025?

The connections among different classifications and versions of the same classification are represented by correspondence tables, also known as converters. Relations between the current and the new version of SKD, which can help assess the impact of changes due to the introduction of the new version, are described in the converter from SKD 2008 to SKD 2025 (in Slovenian only), available in the classification and nomenclature collection, for administrative data collections and the implementation of national statistics, Klasje (in Slovenian only).

More information and explanations about the process of changing from SKD 2008 to SKD 2025 in the Slovenian Business Register (PRS) is or will be available on the websites of the Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Public Legal Records and Related Services (AJPES) and the SPOT portal before its introduction on 1 January 2025.

Determining activities and classifying business entities according to SKD 2025

For a unified understanding and use of the new SKD 2025, more detailed explanations are also being prepared, but they will no longer be part of the new regulation. The explanations for SKD are adopted by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia and published on its website.

Currently a working version of the explanatory notes to SKD 2025 (based on the second version of the explanatory notes to NACE Rev. 2.1) is available. The final version of the explanatory notes to SKD 2025 will be based on the final, fourth version of the explanatory notes to NACE Rev. 2.1 and will be published by 1 January 2025.

At the beginning of next year, the SKD search engine (in Slovenian only), an engine for easier and more consistent use of SKD, will also be updated to reflect the new SKD 2025.

More information about SKD is available on the SURS website (Economic Classifications, SKD – Standard Classification of Activities).
