A fifth of enterprises generated turnover with web sales of goods or services
Last year, 20% of enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed generated 4.1% of their turnover (excluding VAT) with web sales or around EUR 3,950 million. 32% of the turnover was generated with web sales to private customers and 53% with web sales in Slovenia.
Three quarters of enterprises use a website for describing goods or services
77% of enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed are present on the Internet with a website (74% of small, 88% of medium-sized and 99% of large enterprises). 76% present on the website a description of goods or services they offer, catalogues or price information and 17% provide the possibility of online ordering or reservation or booking.
In a 12-month period (April 2022–March 2023), 66% of individuals aged 16–74 years made at least one online purchase, e.g. purchased or ordered a product or a service. Over the Internet purchased the most often 16–24-year-olds (84%; 82% in 2022) and the least often 55–64-year-olds (30%; 25% in 2022). See more in Online purchases, 2023.
Almost a fifth of small enterprises generated turnover with web sales
In 2022, a fifth of enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed generated turnover with web sales, receiving orders for products or services, reservations via websites. Enterprises generated turnover with the sale of products or services, receipt of orders or reservations via their own website or a website of the parent enterprise, via extranet and e-commerce marketplaces, i.e. websites used by several enterprises for trading products or services, e.g. platform for online reservations. Turnover was generated via web sales by 19% of small, 22% of medium-sized and 36% of large enterprises.

More than half of total turnover generated with web sales generated in Slovenia
In 2022, enterprises generated 4.1% of their turnover (excluding VAT) with web sales (2021: 4.8%). Small enterprises generated 4.4%, medium-sized 6.2% and large 2.9% of their turnover (excluding VAT) with web sales. Enterprises in manufacturing activities generated 2.0% and in service activities 6.3% of their turnover and 3.0% in Vzhodna Slovenia and 4.8% in Zahodna Slovenia.
The value of the turnover generated with web sales amounted to around EUR 3,950 million (excluding VAT). 27% of this turnover was generated by small, 37% by medium-sized and 36% by large enterprises.

In trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (G 45–47 of NACE Rev. 2), 44% of enterprises provide the possibility of online ordering or reservation or booking on the website. In 2022, 39% of enterprises in this activity generated turnover with web sales. They generated with web sales 6.6% of their turnover (excluding VAT), around EUR 2,300 million. 98% of the turnover was generated with web sales via their own website or a website of the parent enterprise, via extranet and 39% with web sales to private consumers.
In retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (G 47 of NACE Rev. 2), 53% of enterprises provide the possibility of online ordering or reservation or booking on the website. 43% of enterprises generated turnover with web sales, which amounted to 4.8% of their turnover (excluding VAT), which presents around EUR 883 million (around EUR 139 million more than in 2021). 71% of this turnover was generated with web sales to private consumers and 62% with web sales in Slovenia.
A tenth of enterprises generated turnover with web sales via e-marketplace
In 2022, a tenth of enterprises generated turnover with web sales via websites used by several enterprises for trading products or services (e-commerce marketplace): 10% of small, 8% of medium-sized and 11% of large enterprises. This way enterprises generated around EUR 419 million (excluding VAT) of turnover or as in 2021 0.4% of their turnover (excluding VAT). 59% of this turnover was generated by small, 26% by medium-sized and 15% by large enterprises.
Contextual advertising most often used method of paid advertisement on the Internet
21% of enterprises pay for advertisement on the Internet, e.g. adverts on search engines, on social media (e.g. on Google, Facebook, YouTube) or on other websites: 19% of small, 28% of medium-sized and 40% of large enterprises. When paying to advertise on the Internet, enterprises most often use the method based on content of the website or keywords searched by Internet users (19%). 9% use the method based on the geolocation of the Internet users, 8% the method based on the tracking of Internet users past activities or profile and 1% other methods.

The published data are estimates derived from the survey on the sample that represents enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed persons. An enterprise may consist of several ownership-related legal entities, as long as they operate on the market as one independent enterprise.
