Inflation – annual inflation rate

Inflation is a general increase in prices, while the inflation rate shows the percentage increase in prices. In Slovenia inflation is measured with the consumer price index with which we measure changes in retail prices of goods and services from the point of view of the expenditure structure, which the resident population intends for final consumption at home and abroad.

In the last five years employment in trade activities up by more than 10%
In August 2019 the number of persons in employment decreased by 0.1% over the previous month. Compared to August 2018 it increased by 2.4% (to about 893,200). Around 114,400 persons were employed in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles.

Foreign tourists who stayed in hotels in Slovenia in April or May 2019 spent on average EUR 178 per day
In spring (April–May) 2019 four out of five foreign tourists who stayed in hotels in Slovenia decided to visit Slovenia for private reasons. For accommodation, food and drinks, transportation in Slovenia, free time activities and for other shopping and services they spent on average EUR 178 per day.

Estimated mineral fertilizers consumption in Slovene agriculture in 2018 at the level of 2016
Compared to 2016, in 2018 the agricultural areas fertilized with mineral fertilizers decreased by 4%. The total consumption of macro plant nutrients from mineral fertilizers decreased only by 1%.

In 2018, households consumed 5% more water from the public water supply than a year earlier
In 2018, 0.8% more water than in 2017 was abstracted for the public water supply, almost all of it (99.2%) from groundwater sources. Households consumed 0.5% more water from the public water supply than in 2017, while production and service activities consumed 1.8% less.

Average gross earnings for August 2019 0.7% lower than gross earnings for the previous month
Average gross earnings for August 2019 amounted to EUR 1,725.91. Compared to gross earnings for July 2019 they were lower (in nominal terms by 0.7% and in real terms by 1.1%), while compared to gross earnings for August 2018 they were higher (in nominal terms by 3.4%, in real terms by 1.1%).

In Slovenia one in eight and in the EU one in six people is below the at-risk-of-poverty threshold. One in six people in Slovenia and one in four people in the EU is at-risk-of-poverty or social exclusion. Relative poverty of children and social exclusion of children are among the lowest in the EU.

The prices of agricultural products in August 2019 on average 4.8% higher than in August 2018
In August 2019 the prices of agricultural products were on average 4.8% higher than in August 2018. The prices of crop products were higher on average by 4.8%, and the prices of animals and animal products by 4.7%.
