INDICATOR DESCRIPTION
Gross final energy consumption from renewable sources is calculated as the sum of gross final electricity consumption from renewable sources, gross final energy consumption from renewable sources for heating and cooling, and final energy consumption from renewable sources in transport.
Data on the share of energy from renewable sources in gross final energy consumption from the reference year 2021 on are calculated based on the Directive (EU) 2018/2001 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources (RED II Directive), which replaced Directive 2009/28/EC on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources. Therefore, data from 2021 on are not directly comparable with data up to 2020.
The indicator can also be used to complement the monitoring of goals 12 and 13.
