The mortality rate due to assault describes the mortality due to assault per 100,000 population in the observed calendar year. An age-standardized rate is calculated, which allows a comparison of populations with different age structures of the population.
The standardized mortality rate due to assault is the ratio between the number of deaths due to assault in the observed calendar year and the number of inhabitants in the middle of the same year, multiplied by 100,000.
The disease categories according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) included in the calculation are X85-Y09 and Y87.1.
