Goriška Region

This statistical region lies at the far west of Slovenia along the border with Italy. The Julian Alps, the Soča River and the fertile Vipava valley are the most prominent natural features of this region.

This statistical region lies at the far west of Slovenia along the border with Italy. The Julian Alps, the Soča River and the fertile Vipava valley are the most prominent natural features of this region.

Although it contributed just over 5% to total national GDP in 2012, in terms of GDP per capita it ranked fourth in the country. In the same year, disposable income per capita in Goriška was at the highest, at the second place behind Osrednjeslovenska region.

According to the estimation of the Dwelling Stock, at the end of 2013 Goriška had the highest share of three or more rooms dwellings (around 70%). The share of one room dwellings was less than 10%. Dwellings were here more spacious; average useful floor space per person was 37 m2.

One more interesting thing about this region is the fact that the number of cars per 1,000 population is here the highest; on average 100 cars more than in the Zasavska region. However, cars are here as well as in the Spodnjeposavska region the oldest. In 2013 they were on average almost 10 years old.
