  At the 58th Conference of European Statisticians participants discussed spatial statistics and the impact of global crisis on official statistics, i.e. financial statistics, cross-border data exchange, relationship between rapid access and data quality, importance of social statistics for measuring social well-being, etc.
   
10.6.2010 7th meeting of the OECD Committee on Statistics
  Participants of the 7th regular meeting of the OECD Committee on Statistics discussed the program of measuring progress of societies, the preparation of indicators necessary for the Green Growth Strategy and new requests for data due to the economic and financial crisis. The Committee also adopted the budget for the next two years.
   
8.6.2010 33rd session of the Statistical Council of the Republic of Slovenia
  The Council discussed the priorities of national statistics in 2011 and adopted the proposed changes to the Annual Programme of Statistical Surveys for 2010.

  At the 5th meeting of the ESSC members discussed the ESS strategy paper and the Annual Work Program for 2011.
   
24.5.2010 Honorary doctorate of the Hungarian University for the President of the Statistical Council of the Republic of Slovenia
  Prof. Anuška Ferligoj, President of the Statistical Council of the Republic of Slovenia, received an honorary doctorate of the Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, for her contribution in the field of social mathematics and for outstanding contribution to European scientific achievements in sociology. The Slovenian statistical office congratulates Prof. Ferligoj.

  The Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia together with authorised producers of Slovenian national statistics prepared the report on the implementation of the Annual Programme of Statistical Surveys 2009.

  The Council adopted the Report on the Implementation of the Annual Programme of Statistical Surveys for 2009 and took note of information protection activities at the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia and of the operation of statistical advisory committees in 2009.

27.11.2009 Neighbouring Countries Cooperation Initiative Meeting
  The Neighbouring Countries Cooperation Initiative was established by national statistical offices of Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia with the aim to make the exchange of experience and good practice between them more efficient. The annual meeting was attended by Director-General Irena Križman.
   
20.11.2009 3rd meeting of the European Statistical System Committee
  At the 3rd meeting of the European Statistical System Committee, which took place on 19 November 2009 in Luxembourg, SORS’s Director-General Ms Irena Križman presented Slovenia’s position regarding regulations on statistical monitoring of waste, carriage of goods by road, migration statistics and labour force statistics.

5.11.2009 Statistical Days 2009: The Role of Statistics, Analyses and Forecasts in Managing the Global Economic Crisis
  The annual international conference of statisticians, data providers and users of statistics, which will focus on the topic of the importance of statistics and forecasting of trends during the global crisis, will take place from 9 to 11 November 2009 in Radenci, Slovenia.
   
28.10.2009 3rd OECD World Forum on statistics, knowledge and policy
  The 3rd OECD World Forum on Statistics, Knowledge and Policy is taking place from 27 to 30 October 2009 in Busan. Participants are discussing global progress and new ways of measuring the progress of societies beyond GDP, which will show the level of prosperity of society and not only its production capacity.
   
26.10.2009 30th session of the Statistical Council of the Republic of Slovenia
  The Council discussed the Annual Programme of Statistical Surveys for 2010 and the priorities of national statistics for the year ahead. Members noted the activities of reducing administrative burden in the Slovenian national statistics and the functioning of the Statistical Office in the ESS and the international environment.
   
26.10.2009 The final review of Slovenia's readiness for accession to the OECD in the field of statistics
  In Slovenia’s accession process to become a member of the OECD, the OECD Committee on Statistics assesses its readiness in the field of statistics. The final discussion regarding the fulfilment of the requirements of Slovenian national statistics is taking place on 26th October 2009 in Busan; Slovenia is being represented by SORS’s Director-General Irena Križman.
   
16.10.2009 First meeting of the CES Bureau in its new composition
  The Bureau in its new composition, one of the members is Irena Križman, Director-General of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, is discussing the statistical programme of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe for 2010 and strategy for the next four years.
   
2.10.2009 2nd meeting of the European Statistical System Committee
  At its 2nd meeting, the European Statistical System Committee discussed proposals for regulations dealing with censuses, monitoring of migration and business statistics, and a proposal for a reform of the ESS in the coming decade. The meeting was attended by SORS’s Director-General Ms Irena Križman.

10.6.2009 Conference of European Statisticians, 8-10 June 2009, Geneva
  One of the central themes of the 57th plenary session of the Conference of European Statisticians was “Strategic issues in business statistics”. The participants discussed the reduction of the reporting burden on businesses; the discussion was chaired by the Slovene statistical office, which presented its experiences in using administrative sources for statistical purposes.
   
10.6.2009 6th meeting of the OECD Committee on Statistics, 10-11 June 2009, Geneva
  At the 6th meeting of the OECD Committee on Statistics the participants are discussing the development of statistics for measuring economic performance and social progress, preparations for the 3rd OECD World Forum (October 2009, South Korea), and the global project on measuring the progress of societies with the program for the 2010-2011.

28.5.2009 Final OECD mission in the field of statistics
  Between 27 and 29 May 2009 the final OECD mission in the field of statistics takes place at SORS. A Peer Review Team will obtain information on the system of national statistics and individual statistical areas for the preparation of the draft final report on Slovenia’s ability in the field of statistics.

  Participants of the 40th session of the UN Statistical Commission are discussing methodological issues of statistics related to topical issues in the world; role of statistics in monitoring climate change, environmental and energy statistics, etc.; Slovenia is represented by SORS’s Director-General Ms Irena Križman.

  Memorandum of Cooperation between Statistical Offices of Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia in the field of statistics was signed at the meeting of the Statistical Program Committee, the central institution in the ESS, chaired by Eurostat, on 13 November 2008 in Luxembourg.

  Regulation amending the Regulation on the establishment of NUTS by reason of the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the EU and the regulation establishing a common framework for business registers for statistical purposes published in the OJ of 5 March 2008.

22.2.2008 Outcome of the 3rd meeting of the Council Working Party on Statistics
  At the 3rd meeting of the Council Working Party on Statistics under Slovenian Presidency the proposals for two regulations were discussed: the one on Community statistics on the EU-SILC 2009 module and that on European Statistics.
   
14.2.2008 65th Statistical Programme Committee meeting
  The Slovenian Presidency presents its Progress Report for the field of statistics at the 65th meeting of the Statistical Programme Committee, which is the key institution of the European Statistical System, on 14th February 2008 in Luxembourg.
   
11.2.2008 Council of the European Union adopted two regulations in the field of statistics
  The regulation establishing a common framework for business registers for statistical purposes was adopted and the NUTS regulation was amended. The regulation on statistics on aquaculture is to be adopted in March 2008.

  At the handover meeting, held on 18 December in Lisbon, the Slovenian Statistical Office took over the Presidency of the Council Working Group on Statistics from the National Statistical Institute of Portugal.

  At its 150th regular session on 12 December 2007 the Government of the Republic of Slovenia adopted the Medium-Term Programme of Statistical Surveys 2008-2012.

  At its 25th session, the Statistical Council of the Republic of Slovenia discussed the proposal of the Annual Programme of Statistical Surveys for 2008. Council members elected Dr Anuška Ferligoj, Professor of Statistics at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Council President.

9.11.2007 Public Image Survey of SORS
  The main purpose of the surveying is to measure the recognisability of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia in the general public and to measure the trust in the statistical data published by SORS. The survey follows the trends of providing quality statistical data.

  The Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia and institutions that gave their consent to take over the tasks of authorised producers of national statistics prepared the proposal of the Medium-Term Programme of Statistical Surveys 2008-2012 and sent it to inter-institutional co-ordination.

  At its 131st regular session on 19 July 2007 the Government of the Republic of Slovenia adopted the Regulation on the Standard Classification of Activities, which will start to be used on 1 January 2008.

  Visiting Slovenia, Ms Katherine Wallman, Chief Statistician at the United States Office of Management and Budget, will meet the Minister of Finance and the top management of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia. She will conclude her visit by giving a lecture at the Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana.

  Among publications of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia another issue of Slovene Regions in Figures was published. It contains the latest annual regional statistics.
   
28.5.2007 Statistical data on Slovenia in OECD's database
  In its Factbook 2007 database, the OECD for the first time included data on Slovenia.
   
24.5.2007 62nd meeting of the Statistical Programme Committee
  At its regular meeting, the Statistical Programme Committee (SPC), which is the central institution of the ESS, discussed changed monitoring of consumer prices, the new classification of economic activities, the 2008 statistical work programme.
   
15.5.2007 23rd session of the Statistical Council of the Republic of Slovenia
  At its 23rd session the Statistical Council of the Republic of Slovenia took note of the Report on the Implementation of the Annual Programme of Statistical Surveys for 2006 and supported the subject-matter and organisational framework for the preparation of the Medium-Term Programme of Statistical Surveys 2008-2012.

8.12.2006 Statistical data in tolars converted into euros
  For information and analysis, time series of data shown in Slovenian tolars were converted into euros and published in the SI-STAT database.
   
16.10.2006 Early access to some data
  On 16 October 2006 the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (SORS) introduced the possibility of pre-release access to some statistical data for the highest government officials and the Bank of Slovenia, since high-quality public communication regarding the phenomena monitored by statistical data requires that some of the top officials be acquainted with these data in advance of release. The possibility of such access is envisaged by the European Statistics Code of Practice and confirmed by the practice of national statistical institutes of EU member states.

7.7.2006 Training for public libraries
  The Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia carried out the first extensive training course for users of statistical data and information, which was attended by 59 librarians from 44 public libraries.

  Adhering to the principles of the European Statistics Code of Practice is a proof of the quality of national statistics.
   
9.3.2006 Session of the UN Statistical Commission
  At the 37th session of the Statistical Commission of the UN, which is taking place between 7 and 10 March 2006 in New York, participants are discussing economic statistics, the importance of energy statistics, preparations for population censuses and the Commission’s programme of work for 2006-2009; the Slovene statistical office is represented by its Director-General Ms. Irena Križman.
   
4.11.2005 Statistical Days 2005, International Conference
  The 15th international conference of statisticians, data providers and users of statistical data entitled Communication with Statistical Data Providers and Users and Support for the EMU and the Lisbon Strategy will take place between 7 and 9 November in Radenci.

11.7.2005 16th Session of the Statistical Council RS
  At its 16th session, the Statistical Council discussed the 2006 priority tasks of the Slovene national statistics and acquainted themselves with the revision of the EU Classification of Activities and the European Statistics Code of Practice.
   
6.7.2005 Co-operation with the Statistical Office of Serbia and Montenegro
  The Agreement on Statistical Co-operation between the Slovene Statistical Office and Statistical Office of Serbia and Montenegro will be signed on 7 July 2005.

16.6.2005 Elections of the CES Bureau
  On the 53rd plenary session of the CES new members of the Bureau were elected, among them is, for the second time, Director General of the Slovene Statistical Office, Mrs. Irena Križman.

  53rd Plenary session of CES: the agenda includes Improved Data Reporting Using the Internet and the Role of Official Statistics in Sustainable Development.
   
10.6.2005 Annual Report on the implementation 2004
  The Annual Report on the Implementation of the Annual Programme of Statistical Surveys 2004 is available only in the Slovene language.

  Slovenian version of the SI-STAT Database is upgraded to a statistical portal.

  56 % of respondents considered themselves as regular users of SORS products and services, applying statistical information daily, weakly or monthly.
   
22.2.2005 60th annual session of the Economic Commission for Europe
  The main topics will be financing for development and sustainable development in the UNECE region. Director General Mrs. Irena Križman, also the member of Bureau, is participating in the 60th annual session of the UNECE.
