  Compared to 2008, in 2009 water abstraction decreased  by 0.9% and water supply from public water supply decreased by 3.2% compared to 2008.

  In 2009, 168.5 million m3 of waste water was discharged from the public sewage system, which is by 8% more than in 2008.

  Gross investments for environmental protection collected with the statistical surveys OKI and OKI  – S were in 2008 346635 thousand EUR that is 28% higher than in 2007, the amount of current expenditures for environmental protection was in 2008 389555 thousand EUR that is 12% higher than in 2007.
   
14.7.2010 The sustainable development indicators for Slovenia
  The first publication of the Statistical Office in the field of sustainable development indicators is now available. With the help of this publication we want to improve the visibility of the concept of sustainable development in Slovenia.

  In 2009, 4,267 hectares of land were irrigated, which is 4% more than in 2008.
   
14.4.2010 Let's clean Slovenia in one day
  In 2008 on average 1.24 kg of municipal waste per person per day was generated in Slovenia. 74% of all municipal waste was brought to landfills. Only about 11% of municipal waste was collected separately.

  Slovenia is among the water-richest countries in Europe: as regards the total amount of water per capita, our country is almost four times above the European average. In 2008, 73% of wastewater in Slovenia was treated, 1% less than in 2007.

  As regards the values in 2008 in comparison to 2007, the direct material indicator (DMI) decreased by 8.0%, the domestic material consumption indicator (DMC) by 11.5% and the physical trade balance indicator (PTB) by 19.5%.

3.6.2009 World Environment Day 2009: facing the challenge of climate change
  Slovenia ratified the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and then in 1998 signed the Kyoto Protocol to the Convention, which imposes the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 8% in the 2008-2012 period compared to base year 1986.

  Environmental investments and environmental related current expenditure were from 2001 to 2003 nominally increasing, from 2004 to 2006 they nominally decreased.

  Most of the water in Slovenia (75%) is abstracted from the Sava river basin, and most of the wastewater (90%) is discharged into the Danube river basin.
In 2007, business entities in manufacturing discharged 4% more untreated wastewater than in 2006.

  In 2005, greenhouse gas emissions in Slovenia increased by 2.1% over 2004. In 2006, 431 kg of municipal waste per person was generated and a year before 422 kg.

  In 2005 the largest water protection investment in Slovenia was recorded in Pomurska (30%) and Osrednje­slovenska (25%) regions.

  In 2006 the final data on estimated damage amounted to SIT 19.834 million, which was 6% more than in 2005. The estimated damage was highest in agriculture where it amounted to SIT 17118 million or 68.7% more than in 2005.

  In 2006 the average temperature in Slovenia was 1-1.5°C higher than the long-term average. A year before damage caused by natural disasters was estimated at SIT 18.8 billion, more than a half on account of hail.
