Introduction of the new classification for transported goods in transport statistics - NST 2007 (reference year 2008)
|
In the European Economic Area and wider within the framework of membership of the UN Economic Commission for Europe, in 2008 (reference year) in transport statistics a completely new goods classification NST 2007 is being introduced. The NST/R classification used until now is being replaced by a classification which in contrast to the physical form of goods takes into account the economic activity from which the goods originate. The new classification is fully consistent with the two new European classifications of products and activities (CPA 2008 - Classification of Products by Activity and NACE - Statistical Classification of Economic Activities). As a result, NST 2007 is consistent also with corresponding classifications at the level of United Nations (CPC and ISIC) and with the Combined Nomenclature CN 2007. The new goods classification was introduced in the European transport statistics legislation on 7 November 2007 with the Commission Regulation (EC) No. 1304/2007 as an amendment to the basic European transport statistics legislation adopted by the European Parliament and the Council. The original directive covers the directive on the carriage of goods and passengers by sea, the regulation on the carriage of goods by road, the regulation on rail transport statistics and the regulation on goods transport by inland waterways. In connection with the transition to the new goods classification, you can find here:
- Standard classification of goods for transport statistics (NST 2007).
- Commission Regulation (EC) No. 1304/2007 of 7 November 2007 with respect to the establishment of NST 2007 as the unique classification for transported goods in certain transport modes.
- Conversion tables NST/R-CN2007-CPA2008-NST2007 in access, pdf and excel formats. The latter were prepared by Eurostat for the needs of statistical work, especially for grouping of data and for recalculating statistical series.
