Average monthly earnings, Slovenia, December 2006

Compared to 2005, average monthly gross earnings in 2006 were 4.8% higher. Average monthly gross earnings for December 2006 amounted to SIT 302,207 (EUR 1,261.09), which was 9.5% less than for November 2006.

2.2% real growth of gross earnings in 2006

Average monthly gross earnings in 2006 amounted to SIT 290,635 (EUR 1,212.80) and were in nominal terms 4.8% and in real terms 2.2% higher than average monthly gross earnings in 2005. Average monthly gross earnings for December 2006 amounted to SIT 302,207 (EUR 1,261.09), which was in nominal terms 9.5% and in real terms 9.9% less than for November 2006.

The new Personal Income Tax Act has already had impact on net earnings for December

Average monthly net earnings for December 2006 amounted to SIT 196,251 (EUR 818.94), which was 5.7% less than for November 2006. The smaller decline in net earnings than in gross earnings is the result of the new Personal Income Tax Act, which cane into force on 1 January 2007 and already had impact on December earnings as they are, as a rule, paid in January. The new act stipulates only three (instead of five) income brackets, but the change only has impact on net earnings while gross earnings are not changed.

Average net earnings in 2006 amounted to SIT 185,342 (EUR 773.42) and were in nominal terms 5.1% and in real terms 2.5% higher than average net earnings in 2005.

Impact of 13^th month payments considerably lower for December earnings than for November earnings

In December 2006 the share of 13^th month payments was 2.5% of average earnings (in November 2006 it was 10.0%), so that not taking into account 13^th month payments average monthly gross earnings for December 2006 amounted to SIT 294,657 (EUR 1,229.58). In December 2006 the share of persons in paid employment who received 13^th month payments was 5.9% (in November 18.8%), which was almost the same as in December 2005, when the share was 5.7%.

In 2006 the greater rise in earnings in the Goriška region

Compared to 2005, in 2006 average gross earnings grew the most in the Goriška region (by 5.5%), followed by the Podravska, Spodnjeposavska and Obalno-kraška regions (all with 5.1%). In the same period average gross earnings grew the least in the Zasavska region, by 4.0%.

In 2006 average gross earnings were higher than the national average only in the Osrednjeslovenska region (by 12.9%), while they were the lowest in the Pomurska region – 16.8% lower than the national average.

Data on earnings for December were collected in Slovene tolars. For information and analytical purposes, data in tolars were converted into euros by the irrevocable exchange rate of EUR 1 = SIT 239.64.
