For 60% of households who have narrowband Internet connections the unavailability in their area is the main reason for not having a broadband connection. Almost half (48%) of people used the Internet every day or almost every day.

Most of the households that have narrowband Internet connections (8%) selected unavailability in their area as the reason for not having a broadband connection - 60%. 43% of them claimed that they had no need for broadband connection, 27% of them claimed that it is too expensive for having a broadband connection. 25% of them could access broadband somewhere else.

Almost half of people used the Internet every day or almost every day

Almost 1.1 million or 64% of all people aged 10-74 used the Internet in the first quarter of 2009 (regular Internet users), which is 6 percentage points more than in the same period of 2008. Almost half of all people (48%) used the Internet every day or almost every day (42% in the same period of 2008). 61% of them used the Internet at least once a week, which is 6 percentage points more than in the same period of 2008.

56% of all people aged 10-74 used the Internet at home (48% in the same period of 2008), 28% at the place of work (the same as in 2008), 16% at the place of education (last year 9%) and 14% at public places (last year 10%).

Younger people mostly watch web television

27% of all people aged 10-74 used the Internet for watching web television in the first quarter of 2009 (21% in the same period of 2008), while 25% of them listened to web radio (19% in the same period of 2008). People in the age group 16-24 most often watched web television (50%) and listened to web radio (52%).

The share of people posting messages to chat sites increased more by females

The share of people aged 10-74 who used the Internet for sending messages to chat sites increased to 13%, which is 4 percentage points more than in the same period of 2008. The share increased more by females; by 5 percentage points to 12%. The share for males rose to 14%, which is 3 percentage points more than last year.

Most people are familiar with the right of privacy and data protection

72% of people aged 10-74 who already used the Internet answered that they are familiar with the right of privacy and data protection concerning online purchase. 59% of them are familiar with the right to be informed on the contractual conditions and 58% of them are familiar with the right of cancellation of purchase and refund within short period for most goods. The least familiar (with 54%) is the right of delivery of goods within maximum 30 days after placing the order.
