Transport of goods by road, Slovenia, 2008

In 2008, road goods vehicles with at least 2 tons of load capacity registered in Slovenia carried 2% more goods, performed 18% more tonne-kilometres and performed 16% more kilometres  by loaded vehicles in comparison with 2007.

Almost 78% of all goods were carried and 16% of all tonne-kilometres were performed in national transport, while in international transport 22% of goods were carried and 84% of tonne-kilometres were performed.

Compared to 2007, in 2008 1% less goods were carried in national transport, while in international transport almost 18% more goods were carried. The largest increase (by 40%) was recorded in international transport – cross-trade. The same increase was recorded in tonne-kilometres as well. In the same comparison 15% more goods were carried from foreign countries to Slovenia and 11% more goods from Slovenia to foreign countries. Tonne-kilometres performed in international transport where goods were unloaded from the vehicle in Slovenia increased by 14% and in international transport where goods were loaded in Slovenia by 12%. Goods carried by Slovenian goods vehicles in cabotage increased by 10% and tonne-kilometres increased by 55%.

Transport for hire or reward accounted for 64% of all goods carried and 91% of tonne-kilometres performed, while transport for own account accounted for 36% of all goods carried and 9% of tonne-kilometres performed.
