Sale of agricultural products of private producers on food markets, Slovenia, 2008

In 2008 private producers sold on food markets mostly vegetables, beans and potatoes (50.5% of the total value) and fruits (24.1% of the total value), but also poultry and eggs (6.4% of the total value) and milk and milk products (6.9% of the total value).
In comparison with 2007 the value of vegetables, beans and potatoes sold on the food market in 2008 1.2% lower and the quantity of sold product smaller by 5.3%
As regards vegetables, in 2008 private producers sold on food markets mostly lettuce, cabbage, onion and potatoes. In comparison with 2007 the quantity of sold onion was larger by 37.3% and of cabbage by 3.6%, while the quantity of sold lettuce was smaller by 2.1%. The quantity of sold potatoes was 1.9% larger.
In comparison with 2007 the value of fruit sold on the food market in 2008 20.2% higher and the quantity of the sold product larger by 2.3%
As regards fruit, in 2008 private producers sold on food markets mostly dessert apples (half of all fruits), pears, strawberries, peaches and cherries. In comparison with the previous year the quantity of sold dessert apples was larger by 2.7%, of peaches 13.0% and of strawberries by 6.9%, while the quantity of sold pears was smaller by 9.9% and of cherries by 19.6%.
The value of poultry and eggs sold on the food market in 2008 12.6% higher
In comparison with 2007 private producers sold on food market 26.0% more slaughtered chickens and hens and almost a half less slaughtered turkeys. The quantity of sold eggs was 5.9% larger.
The value of milk and milk products sold on the food markets in 2008 23.5% lower
In comparison with the previous year in 2008 the quantity of sold milk was smaller by more than a third, of cheeses by 24.5%, of fresh butter by 18.7% and of cream by a third.
The value of other products sold on the food markets 11.8% higher in 2008 over 2007
Of other products sold by private producers on the food markets the quantity of sold cereals was smaller in 2008 almost by a third and of honey larger by a half. Among other products less olive oil, sauerkraut, sauerturnip and mushrooms were sold. In comparison with 2007 the value of sold flowers was higher.

Methodological note In 2009 the data on the sale of own agricultural products on food markets are besides the yearbook published also in the First Release. The data are collected with the monthly statistical survey on the supply of products produced by private producers to the food markets (KME-TRGI/M questionnaire). Observation units are organizations with organized markets that are keeping records on charged tax paid by private producers to rent a market stall for selling agricultural products. Products sold by companies, other organizations or citizens performing commercial activity on their own behalf but not producing agricultural products are not included.
