In December 2008 increased slaughter of pigs and sheep compared to the previous month
In comparison with the previous month, in December 2008 the number of slaughtered sheep increased by 62.8% and the number of slaughtered pigs by 46.6%. Also the number of slaughtered cattle increased by 5.1% and of poultry by 1.6%, while the number of slaughtered horses decreased by 5.8%.
In the same comparison the total weight of dressed carcasses of slaughtered sheep increased by 66.1%, of pigs by 41.9%, of cattle by 3.3% and of poultry by 0.4%. The total weight of slaughtered horses decreased by 5.0%.

With the exception of cattle and poultry, slaughter decreased compared to December 2007
Compared to December 2007, in December 2008 the number of slaughtered poultry increased by 5.2% and of cattle by 4.6%. The number of slaughtered sheep decreased by 23.6%, of horses by 13.4% and of pigs by 8.3%.
In the same comparison only the weight of dressed carcasses of cattle increased by 3.5%, while with all other animals their total weight of dressed carcasses decreased; of sheep by 13.2%, of horses by 9.8%, of pigs by 7.8% and of poultry by 2.0%.

In December 2008 slaughterhouses didn't import any pigs or cattle for slaughter.

In 2008 more cattle, poultry, rabbits and goats were slaughtered, while the slaughter of pigs, sheep and horses decreased
In 2008 slaughter of cattle increased by 2.7% compared to the previous year. Their weight of dressed carcass increased by 2.0%. Compared to the previous year more calves and bulls older than 2 year were slaughter (and also bullocks). The slaughter of poultry increased by 1.6%, while their weight of dressed carcass decreased slightly compared to 2007 (by 0.4%). In 2008 also the number of slaughtered rabbits increased by 33.9% and the number of slaughtered goats by 26.0%. The most substantial decrease was with the number of slaughtered pigs (by 6.1%), while their total weight of dressed carcass decreased by 5.4%. The slaughter of horses decreased by 4.6% and their weight of dressed carcass by 5.9%. Compared to 2007, also the number of slaughtered sheep decreased by 5.6%, while their total weight of dressed carcass decreased by 7.2%.

Lower import of cattle and pigs for slaughter was reported by Slovene slaughterhouses
In 2008 Slovene slaughterhouses reported import of 685 heads of cattle (a 59.2% decrease over the previous year). The cattle were imported mainly from Hungary and the Czech Republic. Their total weight of dressed carcasses was 201 tons (44.9% less than in 2007). Slaughterhouses also reported a decrease in import of pigs for slaughter (by 69.3%). 179 pigs for slaughter were imported by Slovene slaughterhouses and their total weight of dressed carcasses was 18 tons (63.9% less than in 2007).
