Student enrolment in higher vocational studies and higher undergraduate studies, Slovenia, 2008/09 – provisional data

In higher vocational studies enrolled nearly 17.000 students
Compared to the previous academic year the number of students enrolled in the first year has increased, although the number of all students enrolled is lower than in the previous academic year. 40% of students are enrolled in full-time programs and the remaining students in part-time programs. Also in this academic year students are mainly interested in programs for business secretaries and economist, while in the technical fields the most interesting are programs for mechanical engineering and mechatronics.

83,527 students are enrolled in higher undergraduate studies at universities and single higher education institutions with concession
According to data provided by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, there are 83,527 students enrolled in higher undergraduate studies and single higher education institutions with concession. Four fifths of those students are enrolled in full-time programs, 17,764 students are candidates for graduation. As in the previous year the number of students enrolled in the first year has decreased at three universities. Compared to the previous academic year only the University of Primorska recorded a 3% increase in enrolment.

One third of students are involved in Bologna-compliant higher undergraduate studies
Compared to the academic year 2007/08 universities and single higher education institutions with concession have established many new higher undergraduate studies adjusted to the Bologna declaration. According to data of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, 27,824 students are enrolled in higher undergraduate studies harmonized with the Bologna declaration in this academic year, which is a third of all students enrolled in all higher undergraduate studies. In the academic year 2008/09 all 1^st year higher undergraduate students of the University of Nova Gorica and 13 single higher education institutions with concession are enrolled in study programs harmonized with the Bologna declaration.

Another two 2nd degree uniform master study programs have been introduced
In the academic year 2008/09 the Faculty of Pharmacy and Veterinary Faculty in Ljubljana joined the Faculty of Architecture and offered 2^nd degree uniform master study programs, which replaced the previous »long« (9 or 10 semesters) undergraduate university studies. According to data of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, 760 students are enrolled in this academic year in higher undergraduate studies of architecture, pharmacy and veterinary harmonized with the Bologna declaration.
