Gross fixed capital formation by region, Slovenia, 1999-2006

Regional data on gross fixed capital formation are published for the first time according to the Common Classification of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS). NUTS has three hierarchical levels: NUTS 1 level represents Slovenia as a whole country, at NUTS 2 level the country is divided into two cohesion regions – Vzhodna Slovenija (Eastern Slovenia) and Zahodna Slovenija (Western Slovenia) and at NUTS 3 level cohesion regions are broken down into 12 statistical regions. In this publication we publish data at NUTS 2 level.

More gross fixed capital formation in Zahodna Slovenija
55.1% of gross fixed capital formation in 1999-2006 was created in Zahodna Slovenija, which is 22.5% more than in Vzhodna Slovenija. The difference in the value was the smallest in 2006, when the share of Zahodna Slovenija was 51.9%. The largest difference was recorded in 2001, when the share of Zahodna Slovenija was 58.4%.

The share in Financial intermediation, real estate, renting and business activities in Zahodna Slovenija is increasing
In 1999-2006 the largest share of gross fixed capital formation was created in Zahodna Slovenija in the group Wholesale and retail trade, hotels and restaurants, transport and communications – 32% of total value in the region. An important share was created in Financial intermediation, real estate, renting and business activities (24.9%). While during the 1999-2006 period the share of the first group decreased, the share in Financial intermediation, real estate, renting and business activities increased. In 2006 the shares were equalled at 28.3%. The share of gross fixed capital formation in Mining, manufacturing, electricity, gas and water supply in the entire period was 20.4%.

In Vzhodna Slovenija the largest share of gross fixed capital formation in Mining, manufacturing, electricity, gas and water supply
In contrast to Zahodna Slovenija, in Vzhodna Slovenija the largest share of gross fixed capital formation in the 1999-2006 period was created in Mining, manufacturing, electricity, gas and water supply (34.5%). The share in Financial intermediation, real estate, renting and business activities was relatively constant – 21.7% in the entire period. Considerable increase in the share in construction was recorded in 2005 and 2006, but construction represents only a small share (less than 5%) of total gross fixed capital formation.
