Economic accounts for agriculture, Slovenia, 2007
Friday, October 17, 2008, First Release
The change of the system of granting subsidies in 2007 (the main part of coupled subsidies changed into decoupled ones) influenced value added. Gross value added in agriculture amounted to EUR 415.8 million or 1.2% of gross domestic product (GDP), which was a 0.3 percentage point decrease in comparison with the year 2006.
Methodological changes in 2007 In 2007 the price increase of crop products and the introduction of the new agricultural policy were characteristic for Slovenia. The change of the system of granting subsidies (the main part of coupled subsidies changed into decoupled ones) influenced gross and net value added. Gross value added in agriculture amounted to EUR 415.8 million or 1.2% of gross domestic product (GDP), which was a 0.3 percentage point decrease in comparison with the previous year. The main reason is methodological, due to the change of the main part of coupled subsidies into decoupled ones in 2007 and consequently decreased value added. Value of the agricultural production with EUR 1.113,4 million is 4.5 percentage points higher than in the year 2006 due to a 2.4% decrease in production volume and a 1.8% increase in agricultural prices Crop production was estimated at EUR 585.7 million, which was 53.1% of agricultural production value (in 2006 the share was 49.5%). The crop production value increased by 13.3%, mainly due to an 11.2-percent increase in crop product prices. In comparison with the previous year the value of potato, forage plants and other crop products increased the most, by 21.0%. The value of fruit increased by 17.3%; the volume increased by 1.2%, while prices increased by 16.5%. The value of industrial crops increased by 0.9%; the volume decreased by 29.1% (the main reason is discontinued production of sugar beet with the most important share), while prices increased by 35.1%. The value of cereals increased by 16.5%. The production of vegetables and horticultural plants was the only one in the field of crop production that registered a 7.4% value decrease as a consequence of a 15.1% volume decrease partly replaced by a 9.1% price increase. Animal output decreased by 3.9%, due to a 7.7 % price decrease and a 4.2% volume increase Animal output for 2007 was estimated at EUR 508.9 million, and the share of animal output in agricultural output was 45.7%. In comparison with the previous year poultry production increased the most (by 29.8%); the volume increase was that of 19.3% and the price increase was of 8.8%. The value of cattle decreased by 15.5% due to a 19.5 % price decrease and a 3.7% volume increase. In comparison with the previous year the value of pigs decreased the most, by 13.7%, as the result of a 6.5% volume decrease and almost an 8% price decrease. The value of equines and sheep and goats increased, the value of other animals decreased. Among the animal products a higher volume (by 23.7%) and higher prices (by 12.8%) were reached only in egg production. By all other animal products the production value decreased. Intermediate consumption with EUR 697.7 million in nominal terms 16.4% and in real terms 4.2% higher than in 2006 The main influence on the increase in intermediate consumption was that of the price increase of agricultural services (20.4%), feedingstuffs (17.5%), and maintenance of materials (9.7%). In comparison with the previous year, the costs of the maintenance of buildings (14.0%), seeds (7.1%), energy (4.2%), other goods and services (3.8), fertilisers and soil improvers (2.6%), plant protection products (0.6%) and veterinary services (0.5%) increased. Factor income, amounting to EUR 442.6 million, increased by 7.5% compared with the previous year In 2007 gross and net value added decreased in agriculture, mostly due to the introduction of the new agricultural policy. The consequence of the decoupling of subsidies is the change of their presentation in the framework of economic accounts for agriculture. The majority of the subsidies on products (coupled) were transformed into subsidies on production (decoupled). Gross value added decreased by 10.9% and net value added decreased by 24.5%. Subsidies on production increased by 57.6% compared to 2006. 83,953 annual work units (AWU) employed in agriculture in 2007 In comparison with the previous year, the number of AWU decreased by 5.3%. Unpaid labour decreased by 4.5% and paid labour by 14.2%. Production, Income, Entrepreneurial Income, Gross Fixed Capital Formation and Employment, Slovenia, 2002 - 2007
