Print version

In 2007 the number of deaths per road traffic accident increased further.

The number of deaths per road traffic accident higher

In 2006 on average every 121st road traffic accident resulted in death, while in 2007 the ratio was one in 104.

The number of traffic accidents lower

The total number of traffic accidents decreased by 4% compared to 2006.

Fewer traffic accidents on motorways and outside settlements

The number of traffic accidents on motorways decreased by 5%. The number of traffic accidents outside settlements fell by 10% and in settlements by 1%.

More traffic accidents in settlements without a street system

Even though the total number of traffic accidents was lower than in 2006, in settlements without a street system it increased by 4%.

In April and October fewer traffic accidents and in July and August more traffic accidents than a year before

The breakdown of road traffic accidents by months shows that compared to the same months of 2006 the number of road traffic accidents in 2007 was 26.6% down in April, 3-4% up in July and August, 7% down in September and 9% down in October.

More accidents on Mondays, fewer on Saturdays and Sundays

Compared to 2006, in 2007 38% more accidents happened on Mondays and 20% more on Fridays. It appears that more people than before leave the place of work, education or residence (owners of second homes) already on Fridays and return on Mondays. The number of traffic accidents on Saturdays and Sundays fell by 27% and 25%, respectively.

Among people in road traffic accidents more riders of motorcycles and bicycles, and pedestrians

The total number of people in road traffic accidents fell by 6%; however, it has to be taken into account that the number of cars is increasing, while the number of passengers in them is decreasing. Compared to 2006, in 2007 the number of other people in road traffic accidents was higher: motorcyclists by 14%, bicyclists by 14% and pedestrians by 9%.

Fewer people in road traffic accidents without injuries or with light injuries

The number of people in accidents with light injuries and without injuries decreased compared to a year before.

More people in accidents severely injured

In 2007, 1,263 people in road traffic accidents were severely injured, which is 4% more than in 2006.

The number of deaths up

In 2007, 293 people died in traffic accidents, which is 12% more than in 2006.

Among victims of traffic accidents more drivers of passenger cars and bicyclists and fewer pedestrians

Compared to 2006, among victims of traffic accidents the number of drivers of passenger cars increased by 21% and of bicyclists by 21%, while the number of pedestrians decreased by 11%.

The most dangerous regions Pomurska and Notranjsko-kraška

The comparison of the shares of accidents and the shares of people in accidents with the most severe consequences (death or severe injury) among statistical regions shows two of them (Pomurska and Notranjsko-kraška) standing out. In these two regions the share of accidents resulting in death was much higher (two times or more) than the share of accidents in each region. The ratio between these two shares was similar in some other regions but not as explicit.
