In 2007, 18,584 deaths were recorded in Slovenia or by 2.2% more than in 2006. Among them there were 55 deaths of infants under one year of age.
In 2007, 18,584 people died In 2007 the number of deaths compared to 2006, when the lowest number of deaths after 1979 was recorded, began to rise again to the mortality level level before 2006. 18,584 people died (9,473 men and 9,111 women). Compared to 2006 the number of deaths was higher by 2.2% or there were 404 more persons than in 2006. The crude death rate was 9.2 per 1000 population or 0.1 more than in 2006. Among deaths there were 55 deaths of infants under one year of age Among deaths there were 55 deaths of infants under one year of age; 27 boys and 28 girls. The number of infant deaths per 1,000 live births has dropped from 3.4 in 2006 to 2.8 in 2007 which means that Slovenia, among the European countries, is one the countries with the lowest infant mortality rate. Eurostat data show that only Luxembourg (1.8), Sweden (2.5) and Finland (2.7) had the infant mortality rate per 1,000 live lower than Slovenia in 2007. Infant mortality rate in Slovenia was for four times lower than in Romania where per 1,000 live births there were recorded 12 deaths of infants under one year of age and for three times lower than in Bulgaria and Latvia. In Bulgaria the infant mortality rate per 1,000 live births in 2007 was 9.2 in Latvia 8.7. Among non-EU member states the lowest number of infant deaths was in Noway (3.1 per 1,000 live births), while in Turkey the rate was almost by eight times higher than in Slovenia (21.7). In 2007 the mean age at death for men was 9.1 years lower than the mean age at death for women The mean age at death for men in 2007 was 0.6 year and for women 0.1 year higher than the mean age at death for men and women in 2006. In 2007 the age of men at death was on average 9.1 years lower than the age of women at death. The mean age of men at death was 69.1 years and of women at death 78.2 years. In the last three decades the mean age of men at death rose by a little bit more than 6 years (6.3) and of women by almost 8 years (7.8). A boy born in 2006-2007 can expect to live until he is 75, a girl until 82.3 years Life expectancy is on the rise. A boy born in 2006-2007 can expect to live 75,0 years and a girl 82.3 years. Compared to 2005-2006, life expectancy for men rose by 0.2 year and for women by 0.4 year. In the last three decades, life expectancy rose by 8.2 years for men and by 7.7 years for women. The longest life expectany for men in Sweden and Cyprus, for women in Spain and France According to Eurostat data for 2006 boys born in 2006 can expect to live 77 years in ten EU member states, whereas in twelve countries girls born the same year can expect to live 82 years. In seven EU member states life expectancy for men is shorter than 70 years and in nine countries life expectancy for women is shorter than 80 years. Among EU member states life expectancy for men is the longest in Sweden and cyprus (78.8 years) and for women in Spain and France (84.4 years). In 2006 life expectany for men was the shortest in Lithuania (65.3 years) and Latvia (65.4) and for women in Romania (76.2 years), Bulgaria and Latvia (76.3 years). Life expectancy for men in Slovenia had been behind all EU-15 countries. Among countries that joined the EU in 2004 and 2006 life expectancy for men was longer in both Mediterranean countries. In 2006 when a boy born in Slovenia can expect to live untill 74.8 years of age, life expectancy for a man in Cyprus was longer by 4 years (78.8 years) and in Malta by 2.2 years (77 years). Longer life expectancy for a girl born in 2006 than in Slovenia (81.9 years) was in eleven EU-15 member states and in Cyprus (82.4).
