Upper secondary school boarding homes, student residence halls and other institutions offering accommodation to students, Slovenia, school year 2007/08

In the school year 2007/08 boarding homes offered accommodation to 5.5% of students attending upper secondary schools and 16.8% of students attending higher education institutions.

In the school year 2007/08, 17,629 persons were living in 80 upper secondary school boarding homes, in student residence halls and at private legal entities registered for offering residence to students.
In the school year 2007/08, 5,034 students attending upper secondary schools, 32 pupils attending elementary schools and 1,684 students attending higher education institutions resided in 40 upper secondary school boarding homes. 40 student residence halls (public and private) and private legal entities registered for offering residence to students offered accommodation to 10,879 students.


Fewer upper secondary school boarding homes and more student residence halls.
Since 1990 the number of upper secondary school boarding homes (as well as the number of their residents) has decreased by more than 10. On the other hand, the number of student residence halls has almost doubled in the last 15 years. After several years in which the number of tertiary students has been growing, this year the number slightly decreased. Accordingly, the number of students living in student residence halls is also slightly lower (12,563).


One sixth of all full-time students live in student residence halls and other boarding homes.
In the school year 2007/08 the share of all full-time students, including candidates for graduation, living in student residence halls or in other establishments was 16.8%.


In upper secondary school boarding homes, student residence halls and private legal entities registered for offering residence to students 884 persons were employed.
The number of persons in paid employment in boarding homes has decreased a lot. In upper secondary school boarding homes 721 people are employed, which is 121 less than a year ago. The number of people employed in student residence halls (public and private) and at private legal entities registered for offering residence to students has decreased to 163.

Boarding homes, student residence halls and private legal entities registered for offering residence were offering 201,130 m2 of (floor) area of rooms to students.
In the school year 2007/08 they had 9,456 bedrooms and 2,564 other facilities (classrooms, dining rooms, gyms, living rooms) to offer. On average 7.5 m2 of sleeping area were at one student's disposal.
